Previewing My Life Is a Zoo
Many have expressed to anyone that will listen that their life is a zoo, but Bud DeYoung and Carrie Cramer can literally claim My Life Is a Zoo because they actually run one in the upper peninsula of Michigan. And it is basically just the two of them tending over four hundred animals except for the occasional volunteer and visiting family over the weekend. Even that tends to dry up during the winter months which leads to Carrie shoveling over four miles of snow a day (I may need to stop complaining about having to do my driveway) so they can tend to the daily needs of the animals, they need 2,000 pounds of meat and 500 gallons of water each day.
My Life Is a Zoo premieres tonight at10:00 on the new channel Nat Geo Wild. The show follows around the twosome just after the first snow of the season hits but without any snow days in their contracts (they also get no vacation or sick days away from the zoo) for themselves and one of the white lions is near to giving birth. They are also taking in a wild stallion (the duo adopts between three and ten orphaned animals every week).

When is this show on again? I can't find it in my tv listings, it was a sweet show.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a one time thing. Maybe if enough people enjoyed it, they may make moer or even turn it into a series.
ReplyDeleteHey it's on tonight at 8 and again at 11, you should watch it.
ReplyDeleteI was up there. They said they are shooting some summer episodes too!
ReplyDeletethe zoo is so awsome, you get to play with all the animals, I might even get to inturn there next summer! and I was talking to Carrie and she said they have three episodes being edited and are filming more at the end of the month.
ReplyDeleteZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Huh, what?
ReplyDeleteCool couple. Cool life. Boring Show.
Not a boring show by any means. You must not love animals then.
ReplyDeletethis is my family Bud is my uncle there are suppose to be new episodes this fall they filmed us when my family got together for my Grandma's 80th birthday at the zoo.
ReplyDeleteWhat if they have living quarters for volunteers for in the winter? Then maybe Bub and Carrie wouldn't have to be doing everything on there own. I loved te show hope it's a hit and have more to come.
ReplyDeleteThe saddest thing about this show is not the condition of the animals - I've seen worse - but that all media I've seen covering the show touts the Michigan couple as "animal activists" that are taking in a protecting animals that would otherwise have nowhere to go. This show - and this zoo - is not about animal "welfare". No responsible human being would breed "rescue" animals ... it is two indidivuals whose love for humanizing animals (Hugging hyenas?!) has grown into a zoo that demonstrates the utter lack of proper animal protection in our country. It is sad ...
ReplyDeleteD Miller are you for real? Have you ever visited this zoo? It's fully licensed and other, larger zoos around the world compete for the aniamls raised at it because of the natural environment of the zoo that leads to healthy, robust animals. Do you see any conrete? Me either. The evidence you supply to support the claim you make here is purely anecdotal and lacks cohesiveness. I have some questions you might respond to:
ReplyDelete1. How is this a case of lack of animal protection?
2. What leads you to believe the owners are not activists? A sinlge pilot TV spot constructed from days and days of footage?
3. Is it that you have a problem with all zoos?
Is it just me or is Carrie really hot?!?!? I have been to the zoo many times, played with all the animals, and the one thing I never got to play with was Carrie... LOL... Now thats something worth seeing!!!
ReplyDeleteDr. Miller - you have a good point. Why breed rescued animals? And I can't believe that 2 people can effectively manage over 400 animals. And to be scraping by and then to open Piper's Place doesn't make sense - you're spread out even thinner than before. Yes, their efforts are noble but lacking. I mean, rescue a chicken from a tiger out of emotion? When you have prey free to roam, they risk getting 'preyed' upon.He put his own safety at risk when he panicked. Utimately, I believe these two will become hoarders. Then they can be part of the 'Hoarders' reality show.
ReplyDeleteGet real people,They seem like wonderful people that love animals and they don't breed the rescued animals they breed the exotic ones that they buy.If people were half as caring as they are animals wouldn't need rescuing.
ReplyDeleteThe zoo is great! But....Pipers place no kill animal rescue, what is the difference between that and animal hoarding?? Seriously how much attention to all those dogs and cats really get?? Piper's place can go! DeYoung Zoo spend your money on the zoo not on the hoarding of domestic animals, leave that for the crazies!
ReplyDeletethats so cool how they live with all those animals.they have lots of lions, monkeys, alligators, horses, wolves.even my favorite the big, fierce, strong and beautiful tigers!!!!!
ReplyDeletecarrie is so lucky i would give any day to spend a it with all those animaals.it must me so much fun.i want to do that so bad.when i think about it i want to jump off my seet.you can call me a crazy animal lover
ReplyDeletewho thinks my life is a zoo is rad
ReplyDeleteI think this couple have a heart of gold. This is one of the best love of animals show I've seen in a long time. Wish they had more people to help them. Maybe with our support for this show they can hire some help....Go Nat Geo Wild
ReplyDeletelove the show --wish it was on more-- good work i have passion for animals too
