Around the Tubes, October 4, 2025

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on The Lost Station GirlsSunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake), Taylor Swift, Lyn Lapid, Benee, Oasis, Haerts, Cynthia Erivo, The Smashing Pumpkins, Guns 'n' Roses, Scorpions, Calamity Jane, Platoon, Hayden Ryann, Carter Faith, Kumail Nanjiani: Night Thoughts, and Hazbin Hotel,

A teenage girl disappears. Three young women are brutally murdered. All brunette, all last seen near the Perpignan train station. A decades long quest ensues to bring the missing home and bring the serial killer responsible to justice.  Hulu has released the official trailer and key art for French original series "The Lost Station Girls." Check it out below.  Inspired by a true story and starring Camille Razat ("Emily in Paris") and Hugo Becker ("Gossip Girl"), the limited series premieres with all six episodes on October 8 on Hulu and Disney+.

-On Demand Starting November 4th, Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake) As a single summer unfolds around Green Lake, the lives of its residents and visitors intertwine. A girl learns to sail, a boy battles for first chair at a prestigious arts camp, a fisherman and a young mother are an odd pair in pursuit of adventure and the perfect catch, and two sisters savor their final days running a bed-and-breakfast before college pulls them apart. From Tribeca Films.

Taylor Swift released her twelfth studio album, The Life of a ShowgirlThe 12-track album features “The Fate of Ophelia” – the lead single release from The Life of a Showgirl. The accompanying music video, written and directed by Taylor Swift, will be released at 7pm EST on Sunday 5th October.  LISTEN TO THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL HERE.

Gold-Certified singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lyn Lapid drops her new single, “the simlish song”—listen HERE. Inspired by a series of videos about the random “simlish” lyrics she sings while writing a song, Lapid’s TikTok video of the track first went viral in August—amassing nearly 3 million views and over 500,000 likes to date, as well as support from SZA, who reposted the video on her Instagram. Ever since Lyn began teasing the song, fans have been clamouring for its official release.  Lapid recently released the deluxe version of her debut album BUZZKILL (forever), which features four new songs and follows Lyn’s journey through the mixed emotions and experiences surrounding her move from her small suburban hometown in Maryland to the bustling city of Los Angeles. The tracks touch on feelings of loneliness and not belonging, which then evolve into radical self-acceptance and newfound confidence.

Multi-Platinum alt-pop visionary BENEE returns today with a new track titled “Underwater” off of her forthcoming sophomore album, Ur An Angel I’m Just Particles, out November 7th on Republic Records. Listen to “Underwater” HERE & watch the lyric video HERE..  On “Underwater,” BENEE juxtaposes airy and experimental hyper-pop-inspired beats with honest admissions about the overwhelming feelings of anxiety as she candidly sings, “My head is underwater, a puddle full of my tears. I could make a river, wouldn’t even matter.” BENEE shares, “I wrote ‘Underwater’ about that disconnect between how effortless you seem and how heavy you really feel. I think a lot of people will recognise themselves in that.”

Vevo and Oasis released a new episode of Vevo Footnotes telling the story behind the iconic track ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and sharing the inspirations, insights and lasting impact of one of modern rock’s most beloved songs.  The episode notes the song’s nods to John Lennon, most prominently the piano riff inspired by ‘Imagine’. The music video, directed by Nigel Dick, features the band being chauffeured by renowned British actor Patrick Macnee, known for playing John Steed in the classic 1960’s TV series The Avengers. Released as the fourth single from Oasis’ landmark album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, the track became the band’s second UK #1 hit and has since become a powerful anthem of resilience and unity. The album remains one of the greatest British records of all time and was recognised in October 2023 as the most-streamed album of the 1990s, with Definitely Maybe in second place.  WATCH HERE

- The indie duo Haerts release their much-anticipated fourth album Laguna Road along with the piercing opening track “Letters on the Floor”. Thematically, the album frames a confessional portrait of family, memory, and the sacred mess of growing a family together. The duo, composed of Nini Fabi and Benny Gebert, wrote and recorded the album at home on Laguna Road, in the in-between spaces of everyday family life. They left the house in early 2025, having completed the album, to return to New York. WOMAN ON THE LINE” with JENN WASNER of FLOCK OF DIMES + “THE LIE” + “WAIT FOR US”

GRAMMY®, Tony®, and EMMY® Award winner and three-time Academy® Award nominee Cynthia Erivo releases a stunning original recording of “Everytime You Go Away” for the new documentary John Candy: I Like Me.  “John Candy brought so much joy to people’s lives, and it’s an honor to celebrate his legacy through this song. ‘Everytime You Go Away’ is one of my favorites and carries such tenderness. I hope my version captures even a fraction of the warmth he gave the world.” Cynthia Erivo.  LISTEN TO “EVERYTIME YOU GO AWAY”  FILM STREAMING ON PRIME VIDEO OCTOBER 10TH

It acknowledges the pull of attraction while ultimately choosing loyalty and integrity over fleeting passion.

Platoon will release the original score for the Apple Original series “The Last Frontier” (Series Trailer) on Friday, October 10th on Apple TV+, the same day as the global premiere of the series on Apple TV+.  The evocative score for “The Last Frontier” is brought to life by Emmy-nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Marx (“Dying For Sex”, “Black Mirror”). Marx expertly captures the otherworldly beauty and unnerving remoteness of the show's setting in the Alaskan wilderness, while deftly transitioning from eerie tension laden soundscapes to frenetic sonic backdrops that heighten the show's high stakes action scenes. "Working on ‘The Last Frontier’ was an absolute blast,” shares Marx. “I got to collaborate with Inuit throat singing duo PIQSIQ, evoke the Alaskan wilderness, and really play with expectations of an ‘action’ score. Thanks so much to Jon Bokenkamp (series creator) and Apple for encouraging all the experimentation and fun!"  Listen to “Classical Gas”, the main title from the “The Last Frontier”

Toronto-born artist Hayden Ryann brings a confident new voice to country-pop with her single “No Room for Bitchin’,” (Slammin’ Media and distributed worldwide by Believe) set for release on September 26, 2025. Summers spent in Montreal immersed her in the city’s thriving arts scene, shaping her creative identity. “The recording studio feels like my instrument,” she says, reflecting on her sessions in Nashville, Toronto, and Montreal that laid the foundation for her debut album arriving in 2026. Streaming Link Here.

As Smith puts it: “The 4:30 Movie is an ode to lifelong love of not just movies but movie theaters as well. Anything important I ever learned about myself wasn’t discovered in a classroom or church — I learned it in the same movie theater where we shot this homage to the 80’s. 57 Channels and Only This Is On: September 28, 2028

Task:  So, there is a mole in the task force.  Lizzie is too much of a mess to pull that off, DJ Grossonova seems too obvious, so I will go with Aleah who seemed like the fourth wheel until they gave a monologue this week. I was kind of waiting for her to say she made that up just to get the lady to talk.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon:  I missed why Justina took the place of the other lady.  Hopefully they recapped that in the Previously On next week.

Only Murders in the Building:  I predicted LESTR would not make it to the end of the season, but I was not expecting him die the very next episode.  Or die so hilariously.  But with a new one coming, are they just going to kill LESTR every week?  They will have to run out of money at some point. It is a bit disappointing that in the fight between the upstairs and downstairs, Nina Lin is nowhere to be found.  But hey, we did get Tye-Dye Guy’s dad (at least I think he was The Super).

But we have new suspects: the widows. What side hustle were they pulling?  And why was Lester throwing away the invoices at work.  I do not pin them as the killers just yet.  The person who seemed the most suspicious this week was the mayor.  As someone who watches too many mysteries, that guy has to be showing up periodically and played by a recognizable actor for a reason.  Then after the second season twist, the assistant is also sneaking up my murder board.

Two more things from this episode: it was nice we got the brothers back (“Mom, I tried salad” might have gotten the biggest laugh of the episode from me), and after getting an offer on his apartment, will Oliver soon become Westie too?  Will Charles also follow them?  If they are all in the West Tower next season, I think Vince Fish may end up being the victim.

Alien: Earth:  Um, why did they give the hybrids too much power?  Opening locks, freezing other robots, no auto shutoff.  This just seems like a horrible design which just ruins the show for me.  I know you have to put of with some stupidity when watching horror, but this is a bit much.  And the xenomorphs basically becoming pets is just weird.  Who wants to see domesticated killing machines in a horror show?

The Lowdown: Ethan Hawke in this show remind me of his performance in Good Lord Bird, the show is good, but wish Hawke would dial it down a notch or three.

Survivor:  Oh, my goodness, Rizgod is quickly moving up the most annoying characters in this show’s history.  And how did he win his challenge.  Keep digging in place.  It is not a hard challenge.  But I cannot believe they do not have rules about looking at other’s progress.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats:  Speaking of cheating, I wish TJ was this passionate about all forms of cheating.  This is another show that does not care if you cheat off your neighbors.  Or help your buddies in elimination.  And contestants have been spitting out food right after going in their mouths for a long time now. Hopefully this is the start of crackdown on all cheating.

Peacemaker:  They revealed something that everyone already figured out, they are in Nazi world.  Though we did not figure out what became of Judomaster.  I am guessing when the mob catches up to Adebayo, they will throw her in whatever camp they are keeping Judomaster.  But the question is how will Peacemakers rescue them and get John away from his father?  Hopefully the Sons of Liberty have a big network in this universe.  Thankfully they put Superman on The Max just in time for that cameo to make sense.
