Around the Tubes: August 30, 2025

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on Benee, Jesse Harris, Sydney Rose, Fall Out Boy, Shaggy and Dillon Francis, John Carter Cash, myah, and Wilby.

- Multi-platinum alt-pop visionary BENEE reveals her long-awaited sophomore album, Ur An Angel I’m Just Particles, will be released on November 7th via Republic Records.  BENEE celebrates the much anticipated announcement with her new single, “Cinnamon,” out now. The bouncy electro-pop track is released alongside the official music video—listen to “Cinnamon” HERE and watch the video HERE.

"Having a Ball" is the new love song from Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jesse Harris and features him in a duet with his longtime collaborator and friend Norah Jones. Wrapped in a lush orchestral arrangement by Brazilian composer Maycon Ananias, the song blends classic elegance with emotional intimacy. It’s the second glimpse into Harris’s forthcoming orchestral album, If You Believed In Me, out this fall: a sweeping, cinematic journey from one of today’s most quietly iconic songwriters from NYC.  "Since I first met Norah in 1998, she has always brought magic and energy to every song she sings. It had been years since we'd recorded together, and ‘Having a Ball’ seemed to cry out for her to harmonize with me. Once she got in the studio, her improvised ad libs and scats added so much, so I asked her to do two separate takes of it, which you can now hear throughout the song" says Jesse Harris.  Listen to "Having A Ball" (ft. Norah Jones) HERE

Georgia-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sydney Rose shares an emotionally charged new single entitled “I Stopped Trying” featuring Delaney Bailey out now via Mercury Records. It notably marks their first collaboration together. Listen HERE.  On the track, Sydney’s breathy hum glides through the haze of softly strummed chords. Feeling overflows from her delicate lilt, and she exhales, “Maybe it’s you I don’t deserve.” The chorus concludes with a raw realization, “I’d rather break my own heart then let you be what caused it.” Delaney taps into the same level of emotion. Their voices entwine in a harmony that’s as heart-crushing as it is hypnotic.

GRAMMY® Award-nominated iconic multiplatinum rock band Fall Out Boy celebrates two decades of their influential 5x-Platinum breakthrough album, From Under The Cork Tree, with a very special new 20TH Anniversary Edition out October 17, 2025, via UMe. The original LP’s 13 songs are newly remastered, while the collection notably boasts previously unreleased alternate and acoustic versions as well as remixes, live recordings, B-sides, and more. It also captures key performances from this era with special “Live On BBC Radio” tracks. From Under The Cork Tree (20TH Anniversary Edition) will be available in multiple configurations, including a massive 3LP Deluxe Box, 2CD Deluxe Box, and Super Deluxe Digital. Pre-order From Under The Cork Tree (20TH Anniversary Edition) now HERE. Shop the anniversary collection now HERE.  The group heralds its arrival by sharing the highly sought-after B-side “Start Today” on all streaming services. Fall Out Boy originally recorded this Gorilla Biscuits cover for inclusion on Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland Soundtrack in 2005. Prior to, the song was only available on the compilation and in the accompanying video game. However, this high-energy fan favorite finally lands on streaming platforms today! Listen HERE.

Entertainers Shaggy and Dillon Francis will headline the Heineken Silver Stage at the FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX, November 20-22. They will be supported by performances from Jazzy, BANDABBAAwakeningJabbawockeez, and more names to be announced. Additionally, fans will be able to catch all 20 Formula 1® drivers as they take part in live on-stage Q&As and autograph sessions throughout the weekend.  “The Heineken Silver Stage has become a staple of race weekend, mixing the entertainment Las Vegas has become known for along with appearances from the drivers who make the magic happen on the track,” said Emily Prazer, President and CEO of Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc., “This stage offers something for every fan, providing a unique mix of high-energy performances and interactive fan engagements between on-track sessions.”

GRAMMY®-winning producer, songwriter, and recording artist John Carter Cash has released the official music video for his whimsical new single, “Sleeping with the Mermaid.” The track, out now via Avondale Records and distributed through The Orchard, is the second release from Cash’s forthcoming concept album, Pineapple John, due October 10, 2025.  Written by John Carter Cash and Bill Miller, the track leans fully into its playful spirit, weaving together a string of seaside shenanigans, questionable cocktails, and one unforgettable overnight guest, who may or may not have fins.

Los Angeles-based alt/indie pop singer-songwriter and filmmaker myah shares her debut album i don't know what i'm feeling out now. Aiming to catch her breath, first track "dissolve" is a deep dive into the pain of loss and heartbreak that builds with an expansive, emo-tinged sonic landscape. The full project sees myah learn to fall apart only to piece herself back together on a complete, emotional journey of growth and self-discovery.  The punchy long-awaited LP is a confessional, bittersweet reflection on the highs and lows of love and self-discovery. Through 17 tracks, the musician captures falling in and out of love–the butterflies, joy, turbulence, heartache, anger and everything in between–as she comes to terms with love not always being the fairytale it appears to be. Myah shares, "It touches on the crisis you experience as you start to get older and realize that romance and love aren’t what you’ve been told your whole life. It’s toxic and devastating and confusing; it can feel like you’re on top of the world one day and then like your whole world is falling apart the next."

Wilby, the indie-rock project of songwriter and artist Maria Crawford, today releases new single “Care” ahead of debut album Center of Affection. Due out October 10 via Hit The North Records, the record features previous singles “Pleaser”, “Spin”, “Experiments” and “Center of Affection”, which have seen support from FLOOD MagazineKEXPAtwood Magazine, Northern TransmissionsRIFF Magazine, and more. Alongside the track, Wilby announces a string of live shows, including Fall headlining dates in Los Angeles and Nashville, as well as a November tour with NYC band Work Wife.  An emotional centerpiece to Center of Affection, “Care” opens with soft vocals and gentle guitar, building into a steady crescendo that erupts in a blistering scream of distortion. Written in spring 2023, the song marked a turning point for Crawford, realizing it was time to create an album from the same place of “accountability and guttural confession.”

57 Channels and Only This Is On: August 24, 2025

Alien: Earth:  So, is no one going to notice the lady robot entering the quarantine area and collapses?  But I had to be told afterwards that they were putting the baby xenomorph into the brother’s lungs.  That cannot possibly end well for him.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox:  Well, that started weird.  It is a shame it does not keep that weirdness once the murder happens.  I will admit, this was not a case that I particularly cared about, but the whole African hair seems like something that would exonerate Amanda, not make her a suspect.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats:  Always a good episode when Johnny gets backpacked again.  But the vets, especially the guys, are looking really old all of the sudden.  It may be a steady stream of vets going home from here on out.

Peacemaker:  The new DCU just rebooted and they are already doing a multiverse story?  And doing why while goes into free fall during their multiverse saga.  But extremely weird they are doing a multiverse story and yet reconned the season one finale instead of using the multiverse to explain why season one Peacemaker is not exactly part of the current DCU.
