Around the Tubes: October 25, 2025

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on Em Beihold, Elton John, Sublime, The Smashing Pumpkins, Leif Vollebekkm, Couch, Down Cemetery Road, and June Farms.

Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Em Beihold drops an alternately cozy and catchy new single entitled “Scared of the Dark, out now on all streaming platforms via Republic Records. It unfolds yet another facet of her ever-expanding creative world.  Listen HERE.  As if flipping a switch, the song builds from vulnerable verses into a vibrant refrain spiked with an up-tempo rhythm and strutting bassline. Piano blinks through a steady rhythm, and Em makes a confession on the hook, “I’m scared of the dark and my co-dependent heart. What made that noise, was it a ghost? No, I can’t be alone. It has all the makings of an open-hearted and identifiable signature anthem from the songstress.

Half a century after it dominated charts around the world, Elton John’s seminal album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy has received a 50th Anniversary Edition reissue, out now via UMe. The special reissue is available on multiple formats, including 2LP, 2CD, and 1LP, Live At Midsummer Music, Wembley Stadium 1975, which was the album’s live debut, as well as a booklet containing never-before-seen entries from Elton’s personal diary. All available to order now here.  In 1975, Elton John was in the midst of a prolific run of unimaginable success, having broken into the mainstream in 1970 to become the biggest star on the planet. His 9th album in six years, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, would break new ground in a plethora of ways. A concept album devised with Elton’s longtime collaborator and lyricist Bernie Taupin, it told the chronological story of the early years of Elton (Captain Fantastic) and Bernie’s (the Brown Dirt Cowboy) musical careers in London as they struggled to break through. On the heels of this release is a golden milestone in music history: the 50th anniversary of Elton John’s legendary back-to-back performances at Dodger Stadium, held on October 25 and 26, 1975. These shows stand among the most iconic live moments in rock and pop history, capturing Elton John on his meteoric rise to superstardom and cementing his place as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.

Sublime is making history with their latest single, “Ensenada,” which is currently spending its sixth consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. The track surpasses the band’s iconic 1996 hit “What I Got,” which held the top spot for three weeks, making “Ensenada” Sublime’s longest-running chart-topper to date, while also setting the record for the longest run at the top of Alternative radio in 2025. With over 11 million streams across platforms and over 20 million views on TikTok alone, “Ensenada” proving to be a breakout hit that is dominating the alternative music scene in 2025. The song marks the first fully original release from the trio since Jakob Nowell—son of founding front man Bradley Nowell—joined as lead vocalist and guitarist, signaling a powerful new chapter in the Sublime legacy. “Ensenada” was produced by Jon Joseph (BØRNS) and is the first release from the band’s highly anticipated upcoming new album, Till The Sun Explodes. The Smashing Pumpkins released what would become one of the most iconic works of the decade: the sprawling double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Now, thirty years later, the band is returning with a special deluxe reissue expanding on the original album, including eighty minutes of previously unreleased recordings from the 1996 tour in support of the album.  On November 21, three new versions of Mellon Collie will be available via UMe. The album and live material will hit DSPs, while there will also be a four-disc deluxe edition CD package, featuring new liner notes written by Billy Corgan. The band has also put together a limited edition boxset essential for the diehard fans, including Mellon Collie and the 1996 Infinite Sadness tour audio on four CDs and six LPs, the new liner notes in a hardbound book, a custom tarot card deck, and seven frameable lithographs, all housed in a velvet slipcase with a cloth carrying bag.  Included in all versions, the 1996 live material is a holy grail for longtime Pumpkins devotees. Only recently discovered, the recordings showcase the original lineup at the height of their powers. Listen to the newly discovered live track, “Geek U.S.A.” From The Infinite Sadness Tour ’96, now HERE.

Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk shares a new version of his song “Southern Star,” featuring award-winning Norwegian artist AURORA. The track originates from Vollebekk’s forthcoming short film of the same name, starring both Leif & AURORA together as characters in the story. A music video for “Southern Star,” composed of scenes from the film, accompanies the song released today. The short film Southern Star will premiere at a later date, with additional details to be announced soon.   Conceived by Vollebekk and directed by longtime collaborator and award-winning filmmaker Kaveh Nabatian, the film merges the cinematic tone of Vollebekk’s Revelation album with his visual storytelling.  "Revelation always reminded me of a dream sequence, the songs felt like a little movie, and I wanted to see that movie,” Vollebekk says. “AURORA and I had been fans of each other’s music for years and kept talking about finding the right way to collaborate. When I mentioned I couldn’t find a lead actor for a film I was working on, she simply said, ‘I’ll do it. Come to Norway.’ Two weeks later, we were filming. I can’t thank her enough for what she brought to it - her radiant presence, her generosity, and that unmistakable voice.”  LISTEN TO "SOUTHERN STAR FEAT. AURORA."  WATCH THE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO.

Platoon will release the soundtrack for the highly anticipated Apple Original series “Down Cemetery Road” (Series Trailer) on Wednesday, October 29th, the same day as the global premiere of the series on Apple TV.  Oscar and Grammy nominated and five-time Emmy winning composer Laura Karpman lends her considerable talent to the original soundtrack for the series. “The music for ‘Down Cemetery Road’ was truly a challenge and a pleasure to compose, representing a fusion of diverse musical elements and storytelling techniques that create a complex emotional landscape mirroring the human experience,” shares Karpman. “This ambitious work combines in-your-face percussion with large and profound English string writing, incorporating jazz references and film noir influences to create bold, direct rhythmic elements alongside lush orchestral arrangements.”

Prime Video announced the June Farms November 17 premiere date, along with the trailer and key art. The new Prime Video Original features farm owner and restaurateur Matt Baumgartner, an accomplished but demanding entrepreneur, who runs the farm, restaurant/bar and events space with the help of a team of well-intentioned 20-somethings who aren’t always on the same page as their detail-obsessed boss.
