A Quiet Place: Day One
Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong'o in A Quiet Place: Day One

This summer, audiences were anything but quiet about their excitement for A Quiet Place: Day One, the series’ long anticipated prequel and origin story. The film was a box-office smash with the biggest opening weekend in the franchise’s history. This wave of enthusiasm continued on Paramount+: the horror flick is the #1 most-watched post-theatrical release on the service.

Paramount+’s creepy collection of horror films is popular with our audience all year long. The top terror-inducing titles include: World War Z, Scream VI, Smile and more.

Lioness
Zoe Saldaña in Lioness

Inspired by an actual U.S. military program, Lioness follows the life of Joe (Zoe Saldaña) while she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA's spear in the war on terror. In season two, as the CIA’s fight moves closer to home, Joe and the team enlist a new operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides, Joe is forced to confront the profound personal sacrifices she has made as the leader of the Lioness program.

“What Joe sacrificed in season one was her own personal life,” said Saldaña. “What she's sacrificing this season is just the way that she conducts herself and the way that she does her work.”

Overseeing the Lioness team is the steely Kaitlyn Meade (Nicole Kidman). The two women are often at odds as Kaitlyn pushes Joe to focus on the mission. “Kaitlyn still trains Joe and has to always remind Joe to open up your mind and be a thinker and not a feeler,” Saldaña reflected. “The moment you begin to feel more than what you can think, that can cost someone their lives, including her own. What she's up against this season is impossible. The stakes are way too high.”

Get ready to roar when Lioness season two premieres October 27.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

Star Trek: Lower Decks has boldly gone where no Trek series has gone before. The franchise’s first foray into adult animation begins its final voyage this October with the premiere of season five. To get a full mission briefing, we checked in with its creator, writer and producer Mike McMahan.

  • The last four seasons have been quite a ride. Catch us up on where the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is as we return for season five.

When season five starts, our Lower Decks crew has been broken up because Tendi, their Orion pal, was obligated to return to her home planet to work with her sister on pirate stuff. While she's been doing that, our newly promoted Lt. Jr. Grades have been on space pothole-filling duty: strange and annoying quantum rifts have been opening around the quadrant and our gang is tasked with closing them up.

  • Why do you think Star Trek fans embraced an animated version in such a big way?

I think fans love Lower Decks because it's just nice to spend time with Starfleet officers having a good time. The Cerritos crew is everything you like about the federation plus they're funny! The show is a way to get that Star Trek hit without too much drama, which is (hopefully) a welcome addition to the franchise.

  • All of the characters in the series are amazing, but who was the most fun to write?

That's hard, I love writing Mariner and Boimler across from each other because they're both great but go about their jobs with totally different attitudes. T'lyn is fun too, because Vulcans say so little, you get to completely change the flow of the scene when she pipes up. Ransom might be the big winner though, because he's somehow a bossy dork but also really funny and secretly supportive and sweet. Don’t make me pick! I like everyone.

  • Looking back on the series as a whole, what are you most proud of?

I'm most proud that we can do very silly episodes that stand on their own, but then also meaningful episodes which have character growth and high drama and action. This is a show, and a franchise, where you can kind of tell any story you want. I'm beyond proud that when someone is listing off their favorite Star Trek series or episodes, Lower Decks very often makes the cut near the top. That's more than I could have hoped for, and very cool to see. If Lower Decks is in your top three Star Trek shows, then you're cool and people will like you.

Engage warp speed for the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks on October 24.

UEFA Champions League
  • The UEFA Champions League season is back in full swing with a new format and more matches than ever. Every single match streams live on Paramount+, including rematches of four of the past five UCL Finals during the League Phase. Key matches in October include Arsenal vs. PSG (Oct. 1), Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund (Oct. 22) and Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich.

  • As the 2024 election approaches, Paramount+ is becoming a hub for subscribers to access timely and topical news. The Road to the Election carousel highlights new content around important election moments and events from the recent Emmy Award-winning series The Daily Show as well as 60 Minutes, America Decides, Evening News with Norah O’Donnell, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and more. All the latest live election coverage will also be available via the On Now homepage carousel, including the upcoming Vice Presidential Debate hosted by CBS News on October 1.

  • Next month, Pulp Fiction turns 30. One of the biggest phenomenons to come out of Hollywood in the nineties, Pulp Fiction changed cinema forever with a wildly unconventional story that took audiences inside L.A.’s seedy underbelly. Director Quentin Tarantino threw caution to the wind, creating a blazingly original masterpiece brought to life by John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson while establishing himself as one of history’s most inventive filmmakers. Fans can relive the magic on Paramount+.
