For the past couple years, the first quarter of the year has been a vast wasteland where record companies drop albums by artist they hope to break in the new year (see last year with Amy Winehouse) or albums that were supposed to release before Christmas but held them because they sucked (see the chick from The Pussycat Dolls this year). Yet scrolling over this years’ Winter Music Preview, even though there really is not a blockbuster among them aside maybe Jack Johnson, there is a decent amount of good (and more than enough crappy) music being released the first four months of 2008.
If you are interrested in preordering the albums from Amazon, the link on the album name will take you their, the links on artists names will take you to their iTunes page. If I left one of your favorite artists off the list with an upcoming album feel free to drop me a comment or feel free to wax poetic in the comment section on which albums you are looking forward to. I picked up the new Missy Higgins back in October when it was available at Borders, and heard it even before then on her Myspace. It will seem strange to have it out again in 08.
ReplyDeleteGet ready to hear "Steer" on every TV show in existence.
I am getting a sence that Higgins is a re-release. I thought I remember it getting released questly a while ago and since you already have it and it being on iTunes maybe that was the case and they are re-releasing it to give a bigger push because that is the date Amazon says it is being released.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't think they will be playing Steer on any TV show antime soon unless American Gladiators now has a soundtrack. I touched on that a couple days ago with Kate Walsh who would be a shoe in to be on all those crappy ABC shows if the writers weren't on strike.
Missy's new album is being 'officially' released in the U.S. this year. It was released as a Borders-exclusive in October, and released in Australia months before that. So, for most people, this is the first time they'll have the opportunity to buy it.
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot we've got a writer's strike going on. That's what happens when you don't watch much TV in the first place. Well, I'm sure "Steer" will turn up in a movie trailer somehow, or at the very least get played all over top-40. It's catchier than catchy.
Well I guess that explains that.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't think the song is slutty enough to get on the top 40. Hopefully the adult alternative stations give it a spin.
