I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on Bosch: Legacy, Hulu's Oscars Collection, Lyn Lapid, Cynthia Erivo, Kelsea Ballerini, Smokey Robinson, Sean Paul, MaRynn Taylor, and Nelly Furtado.

- Prime Video released the trailer and key art for its hit series Bosch: Legacy, which will return for its third and final season on March 27, with ten episodes exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Four episodes will debut on Thursday, March 27, followed by two new episodes each week until the series finale on April 17. The series follows Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), a retired LAPD homicide detective turned private investigator; Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers), an attorney who struggles to maintain her faith in the justice system; and Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz), as she wrestles with the challenges of being a patrol cop on the streets of Los Angeles.

- From the powerful storytelling of "A Real Pain" to the thrilling return of the "Alien" franchise with "Alien: Romulus," and the critically-acclaimed "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," these films have earned Oscar nominations and captivated audiences and critics alike as must-watch cinematic experiences — now streaming on Hulu.  And there's more to come! - Rising singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lyn Lapid announces the release of her long-awaited debut album BUZZKILL, out April 25th via Mercury Records. Lapid celebrates the exciting announcement by gifting her fans with her second single off the upcoming record, “i’ll be happy when,” out now—listen HERE.  Lyn spent the past few years carefully crafting what would become BUZZKILL, inspired by the isolating experiences surrounding her move from her small suburban hometown in Maryland to the bustling city of Los Angeles, and all of the mixed emotions that came along with them. - GRAMMY®, Tony®, and EMMY® Award winner and three-time Academy® Award nominee Cynthia Erivo shares her powerful new solo single “Replay” out now via Verve Records/Republic Records. - Five-time GRAMMY® Award nominated and multiple ACM and CMA Award winning multiplatinum songwriter, producer and author Kelsea Ballerini has announced a highly anticipated deluxe edition of her 2024 album, PATTERNS, will be released on Friday March 7, 2025 via Black River Entertainment. PATTERNS (DELUXE), now available to pre-save and pre-order, features five new songs—including the hooky and sleek “Future Tripping,” which she debuted live on Feb. 26 during a show in Fort Worth, Texas.  The wistful song explores the anxiety and uncertainty that accompanies the passage of time: “I don’t want to impose / Some things we’re not supposed to know yet / But my head won’t stop,” Ballerini sings over snappy guitar licks and bright programmed drums. The 20-track edition also includes the fingerpicked ballad (and previously issued digital bonus track) “To The Men That Love Women After Heartbreak,” the punchy and atmospheric “Put It To Bed,” the soulful and sonically shifting “Cut Me Up,” and the earnestly strummed “Hindsight Is Happiness.”

- Gaither Music Group is thrilled to welcome music legend Smokey Robinson to its artist roster. Robinson’s upcoming album, What The World Needs Now, out April 25 on Gaither, is a soulful, musical journey blending timeless classics with original songs that offer inspiration and encouragement. Out today is the first multitrack single from the album with buttery renditions of “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got” and “Lean On Me.” Get a peek behind-the-scenes at the album-making process here. 

- Dancehall superstar Sean Paul has reached another historic milestone as his 2005 smash “Temperature” surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The achievement makes it his second track to enter the streaming platform's prestigious Billions Club, following “No Lie” featuring Dua Lipa.   This milestone arrives as The Trinity—the album that birthed “Temperature”—celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Released by VP Records/Atlantic Records, the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum project featured hits like “We Be Burnin’” and “Give It Up to Me”, cementing Sean Paul’s dominance in the mid-2000s and becoming one of the best-selling dancehall albums of all time. 

- Black River's MaRynn Taylor is crisscrossing the country performing at some of the country's most iconic arenas as part of the all-female arena tour, KELSEA BALLERINI LIVE ON TOUR. Solidifying herself as an artist to watch, the fast-rising "female powerhouse" (Country Now) vocalist is giving fans what they want and is releasing new music with the highly anticipated fan-favorite, "same girl same," (2/21), available to stream HERE.

- GRAMMY® Award-winning multiplatinum singer, songwriter, and producer Nelly Furtado will share new Remixes in celebration of Women’s History Month. The remix series officially kicks off today with the release of “Say It Right (Deborah DeLuca Remix)” and culminates on March 28 with “Maneater (Nala Remix),” with two more remixes of “Say It Right” released in between. Reinventing and recharging two of her iconic smash singles, she notably recruited an elite cohort of global producers, Deborah De Luca, Rinzen, Adana Twins, and Nala.  Each respective Remix adds another dimension and perspective to the original. Italian DJ, producer, and Solamente Records label head Deborah De Luca infuses the track with a jolt of European techno energy, tailoring it to the club. Los Angeles producer and DJ Rinzen amplifies the song’s energy and expands its scope with cinematic ambition. German producer and DJ duo Adana Twins stretch the soundscape of “Say It Right” with deep house textures and rhythms. 57 Channels and Only This Is On: February 23, 2025

 

The White Lotus:  C’mon, how are you going to fly Natalie all the way out to Thailand and not have anyone ask to borrow her jacket?  Or maybe they are saving that moment for the finale and she is the one that goes off.  Well, it is either her or the armed guards get in a shootout with the monkeys who somehow get their hands on a gun.  I am also wondering if those gunshots are a red herring because we do have Chekov’s poison fruit.   I have to guess that is going to factor into the season somehow.  Speaking of Natalie, she and Mike White were in a Tribe with Nick, who would go on to become a legislator in Kentucky who introduced legislation that would legalize sex between first cousins.  I cannot help but think the weird sexual tension between those siblings might be inspired by it.

 

Mayfair Witches:  This show going to Scotland made me think of the time Sons of Anarchy went to Ireland which made that show jump the shark.  Granted this show has always been bad.  Maybe it will somehow reverse jump the shark and manage to get better.

 

The Hunting Party:  You can almost hear the NBC execs saying, “The Blacklist was successful for about a decade, let’s just run that back.”  Except this show is severely missing a James Spader type to chew up the scenes.  The chick from Manifest certainly is not cutting it.  Then, this week, the writers seemed proud of the plot twist of the serial killer being the women when they wanted us to expect the dude to killer, expect the title of the episode was a women’s name.  So that just killed that twist.

 

Paradise:  In another obvious twist, Xavier’s wife is still alive.  It is also fairly obvious that she went to Atlanta to do something for Sinatra.  I wonder if there is another bunker there.  Though the Appalachia Mountains are on the western part of the state.  And the eastern seaboard seemed very flooded.  So that may hurt my theory.  But I am also sensing the show is going towards the same ending of Silo season one.

 

The Challenge All Stars: Rivals:  Yawn, are we really just going to get Adam and Steve eliminating a new team every week?  Does no one else want to go to the finale?  They really need a rule that you cannot be nominated every week so stop this monotonous.  But it was sad that Steve was the only one smart enough to point his shield at the other team to get some extra water in their bin.

- Hulu Original drama series “Paradise,” which hails from 20th Television, has been renewed for a second season.  Following the season one finale on Hulu on March 4th, “Paradise” will air a full first season run on ABC beginning Monday, April 7 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

- The BAFTA Award-winning off-kilter comedy thriller returns.  Created by and starring Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli, the complete second season of Hulu Original series “Am I Being Unreasonable?” will premiere on March 12, 2025.  Season 2 will begin where season 1 left off, mid panic attack. Has Nic got away with murder? Quite possibly. Has she raised her son Ollie to follow in her murky footsteps? Kicked out of the family home for brotherly love – loving the wrong brother – Nic is reduced to sharing a caravan with not so trustworthy best friend Jen. Husband Dan has taken up roller-blading to channel his mid-life crisis. Shunned at the school gates and cast as the witch at the school re-enactment Nic is experiencing hallucinations. Or is the someone playing tricks on her?

- Dubbed by NPR as “the backbone of contemporary Country music,” Miranda Lambert expands her celebrated Postcards from Texas musical chapter with an official music video for upcoming single “Run,” impacting at Country radio this coming Monday, Feb. 24. Embracing the sense of freedom and the three-time GRAMMY Award-winner’s fiercely independent spirit on display in the song’s lyrics, the video directed by Kate Rentz is out now. Watch HERE.

Dennis Quaid and Annaleigh Ashford in Happy Face   Paramount+ explores the rippling effects of crime and trauma with a new original series inspired by the true story of Melissa G. Moore, who at 15 years old discovered that her father was the serial killer known as Happy Face.  The upcoming original Happy Face tells the story of Melissa Reed and her incarcerated father Keith Jesperson, aka the Happy Face Killer. After decades of no contact, Keith forces his way back into his daughter's life, and Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime her father committed. The new series features a star-studded cast, including Emmy-nominated and Tony Award-winning actress Annaleigh Ashford and Emmy Award and two-time Golden Globe-nominated actor Dennis Quaid.  We connected with executive producer and showrunner Jennifer Cacicio on her approach to bringing the Happy Face killer to the screen and working alongside Moore, who also executive produced the series, to shine a new light on her story.  Can you tell us about your experience working with Melissa G. Moore, who is an executive producer on this series and at the center of this story as the daughter of the Happy Face Killer?  Working with Melissa was a dream. She was generous with her time, open with her stories, and even shared her father's letters with me. But most importantly, she put her complete trust in me. She said that she'd told her story in her own words many times, through the podcast, her memoir, and various interviews over the years. She gave me complete freedom to tell this story in a new way. How much of the podcast informed the creative process? Were there specific portions of the story that were easier or more difficult to adapt?  The podcast tells the story of Melissa's emotional journey. It's her coming to terms with who her father is and facing his victims for the first time. Her unique emotional journey is what made me want to tell this story, but the challenge was how to create an exciting plot that could serve as an engine to drive and underpin that emotional story without cheapening it in any way. That's how we came up with the idea of a ninth murder.  Happy Face retells the stories of real-life crimes. How do you balance keeping the story engaging while dealing with such sensitive topics?  From the very beginning it was really important to me that the show not depict any on-screen violence. I wanted this show to be about the emotional fallout of violent crime, the rippling effects of this type of trauma. We definitely hint at the violence, and we discuss it, but we don't dramatize or glorify it. I always did my best to stay rooted in Melissa's emotional story and let her character lead the way. Twists and turns and cliffhangers are great - and our show definitely has them! - but what keeps you coming back week after week are compelling characters.  Despite not being part of or having knowledge of the crimes her father committed at the time, the guilt and responsibility still weigh heavily on Melissa (played by Annaleigh Ashford), which is partially why she feels reeled back in to find more information about the new victim. What do you think that says about the human experience of examining the relationships or lack thereof we have with our parents and their actions? I was drawn to Melissa's story in the first place because I related to it. For most of my childhood, my father was incarcerated for drugs, and while the crimes our fathers committed were very different, the questions were the same: was my childhood what I thought it was? Did I really know my dad the way I thought I did? Am I destined to be like him or can I pave my own way? The question of nature vs. nurture will always fascinate me, and I think no matter your upbringing, most people can relate to seeing your parents' flaws and loving them anyway. This show just explores those themes on steroids, haha.  Is there anything specific you'd like viewers to take away from this story and its various themes?  We all love crime shows, but I hope viewers appreciate that we are trying to explore the crime drama through a different lens. And I guess if there's a takeaway, it might be that sometimes you have to lean deeper into the darkness of your life to step into your true light.  Don’t miss the two-episode premiere of Happy Face on Paramount+ March 20.

Gotta go fast! Following its triumphant theatrical run, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 made a mad dash to Paramount+ this month and is already a hit on the streaming service, while also boosting viewership of the franchise's previous two films by a combined 185 percent. The film, which premiered in theaters in December, picks up shortly after the Paramount+ original six-episode event series Knuckles. Following the red echidna's eponymous journey of self-discovery, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles reunite to face a new, formidable foe, Shadow, a mysterious hedgehog with powers unlike anything they've ever seen. Together, team Sonic must secure an unexpected alliance if they hope to stop Shadow and save the planet they now call home.  Directed by Jeff Fowler, who has directed all three films in the series, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is composed of an all-star live-action cast including Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell and Krysten Ritter. Returning voice cast members include Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O'Shaugnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles,  as well as franchise newcomer Keanu Reeves as Shadow.  In addition to the three theatrical films, nostalgic hedgehog heads can check out the various retro animated series about the speedster available on the service, including Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground. Mohamed Salah - CBS Sports   CBS Sports' soccer season is kicking into high gear for UEFA Champions League Round of 16 action March 4-5 and March 11-12, with every match streaming live exclusively on Paramount+. Liverpool and Barcelona will look to continue their top performances and secure a spot in the Quarterfinals in what has been a record year for UEFA Champions League viewership on Paramount+.  The NWSL season kicks off in March and Paramount+ will be at the center of the action when Chicago Stars FC host the Houston Dash on March 23.
