BEHIND
THE STREAMS

Jacob Lofland and Paulina Chávez in Landman season 2

Set in the boomtowns of West Texas, the Paramount+ original drama series Landman dives into the high-stakes world of oil rigs, exploring the lives of roughnecks and billionaires whose fortunes shape families, communities, and the future of the region. Season 1, which topped the Nielsen charts, follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he navigates personal and professional turmoil after a tragic oil site accident, while his family faces new challenges and shifting loyalties. Ariana (Paulina Chávez), a resilient widow, brings emotional depth to the story as she confronts grief, family conflict, and an unexpected connection with Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland). Ariana’s strength and vulnerability shine through, making her one of the show’s most compelling characters.

In an exclusive Q&A for View From the Peak, Chávez discusses Ariana’s evolution and what fans can expect in season 2.

  • How does Ariana’s story evolve this season and what new layers of Ariana’s character will fans get to see? (without any spoilers!)?

Season 2 sees new layers to Ariana unravel as she faces challenges and conflicts in her next chapter. Ariana’s stronger, bolder, and more unapologetic this season. She’s a force to be reckoned with.

  • The relationship between Ariana and Cooper was one of the most compelling threads last season. How would you characterize their dynamic this season, especially as they navigate personal trauma and the high-stakes oil world together?

Cooper and Ariana are still figuring each other out - learning what they want, what they need, and what they're willing to fight for. The stakes are high for her; she is balancing trauma, motherhood, and a new relationship while trying to define what she truly wants for herself. Ariana also sees the oil world through a new lens now, and that new perspective changes how she operates. Through it all, she constantly shows her strength and resilience.

  • You've spoken about how collaborative your work with Taylor Sheridan has been. How has that creative partnership influenced Ariana's development this season?

Taylor Sheridan creates these worlds with so much grit and honesty, they feel incredibly real to live in. From day one, we wanted Ariana to be more than a grieving widow; we wanted her to rediscover her voice after loss. The collaboration I felt with Taylor opened the door for me to take bigger risks and make bolder choices with her this season. Ariana is learning to reclaim her power entirely on her own terms.

  • Landman explores themes of resilience, justice and identity. As Ariana continues to navigate family conflict and corporate pressure, what message do you hope her story sends to viewers this season?

I hope people see that resilience doesn’t mean having it all together - it's about finding courage when life gets messy. Ariana would probably call it being "clumsy" in the best way. Even in the face of unimaginable loss, her identity - her family, her culture, her roots - is her power. Her strength comes from knowing who she is even when the world tries to shake that. I hope people watching feel seen in her story.

Get ready for another wild ride in West Texas when Landman returns November 16, only on Paramount+.

IN THE
SPOTLIGHT

Kecia Lewis, Braxton Paul, Adrianna Mitchell, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Adrian Martinez, and Finn Maloney in Crutch

Running a flooring company in Harlem isn’t easy, but neither is raising two adult kids who suddenly move back home. In the comedy series Crutch, premiering on Paramount+ November 3, Tracy Morgan plays Francois “Crutch” Crutchfield, a widower whose world gets turned upside down when his highbrow son and free-spirited daughter move back into the family home.

“I act like I don’t want them back,” Morgan said. “But I really want them back. I really miss them. They remind me so much of their mom.”

Produced by CBS Studios and created and executive produced by Owen Smith (The Last OG) with Cedric the Entertainer executive producing for A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, Crutch is a hilarious extension of The Neighborhood universe, swapping L.A. palm trees for Harlem brownstones.

Fans will first meet Crutch in a special episode of The Neighborhood** on CBS, which airs the same night that Crutch premieres on Paramount+. When Calvin (Cedric the Entertainer) calls on his cousin for a flooring favor, he ends up getting a lot more than a home improvement quote. “He’s my cousin, my New York version,” Cedric said. “He’s a blue-collar guy with a big heart, and as much as his kids need him, he needs them.”

For Morgan, the role is personal. When asked if Crutch was inspired by his own life, he said, “Yeah, kind of. My first wife passed away, and my kids, they come to me with their problems, and we figure it out together.”

In addition to Morgan, the cast of Crutch includes Jermaine Fowler, Tony Award winner Kecia LewisAdrianna MitchellAdrian MartinezBraxton Paul, and Finn Maloney. Together, they capture the rhythm of family life—one part laughter, one part frustration, and plenty of unconditional love. Like The Neighborhood, Crutch finds humor in humanity, Harlem-style, exploring grief, growth, and learning to embrace what’s right in front of you.

All eight episodes of Crutch premiere November 3, exclusively on Paramount+.

57 Channels and Only This Is On: October 19, 2025

Task:  Well, that was a tense opening scene; if an opening scene can last twenty minutes.  But what exactly was Robbie’s plan?  Was he trying to get the jump on the gang and hoping to take out as many as he could before he got got?  Why not just hang out at that lady’s place, then take your half and go to Canada after she sells it?  But now we get a big showdown between Tom and DJ Grassanovs.  Though, now that we know that the show will be competing for Best Drama and not Limited Series, it has to be asked, will we get a conclusion or is catching DJ Grassanova the second season.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon:  It took me a while to remember who that lady was.  But why not just join Daryl when he left?  It is weird for her to just tail him and completely miss him while he was wandering the desert and running into lepers.  But of course, they were not able to rescue who they went there for; there is still one episode left.

Only Murders in the Building:  This may have been my favorite episode of the season.  The round table of bad ideas was great.  The blackjack table was great.  The therapy session was great.  I just wish they were longer.  There has to be some outtakes somewhere.  It is a shame this show has never released any.

As for the mystery, the two most intriguing tidbits we got this week was Sofia was having an affair (or at least Nicky thought so) and Randall was there when Lester died.  As for the latter, I think Randall was cleaning up after someone and was not actually the killer.  As for who Sofia was seeing, I guess the mayor has to be a part of this. Maybe he was teaming up with Sofia as a way to make sure Bash did not get the casino deal.

Chad Powers:  So, is Russ going try to hook up with the coach’s daughter as Russ?  Is the coach’s daughter going to put two and two together as to why Russ just happened to be staying at the same hotel as the team in random southern city?

The Lowdown:  Why isn’t this a buddy show between Hawke and Dinklage?   I think I would like that show more than what we got.  Now I wonder if Dinklage will be sticking around of was this just a one-episode thing.

Survivor:  I thought it was strange that they still had the vote out which would make the swapped tribes of three.  They switched things up and gave us two tribes. But really cruel that they made the best tribe and the worst tribe the two tribes and left it to the luck of the draw as to where you ended up.

But, oh my, we actually got a new challenge and I like this a lot better than the same boring puzzle they have been doing for decades.  This was much more entertain watching each tribe trying to figure out the best way to tackle then seeing players just place puzzle pieces.  Hopefully they keep switching these challenges up.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats:  Ok, that was a brilliant plan keeping Theo and his partner from staking a claim.  Though it will likely only work this time and will not work again as Theo came back.  I do wish both men and woman did a couple rounds standing up before going to sudden death in this elimination.

57 Channels and Only This Is On: October 12, 2025

Task:  We finally got a face to face with Tom and Robbie.  Though I guess it was more face to back of the head for most of it.  We also got a fairly anticlimactic reveal of the mole.  There has to be another shoe to drop otherwise why do cryptic with the Martha Plimpton phone call last week?

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon:  Wait, there are still lepers in the world?  That seems like something that got cured a while ago.   Or maybe it is something easily curable with modern medicine, but without it, leprosy has returned.  Kind of sucks in a zombie apocalypse you contract a disease that kind of makes you look like a zombie.  But I get Carol not coming, but maybe Daryl should have taken someone else.

Only Murders in the Building:  I am not a fan of starting a episode and then giving us "x amount of time earlier" title card.  That trope seemed very unnecessary here.  The Silver Alert bit would have been just as funny if we did not know it was coming, probably funnier.  But what a way to realize that Dylan and Becky Ann Baker are married.

I am shocked that I have spotted all the title sequence easter eggs so for this season.  Though this one was pretty obvious as the creepy kid showed up (at least) four times.  I was wonder how they could possibly incorporate that in the show and it did not disappoint.  I am surprised that none of the trio got locked in the basement with the kid.  Maybe that will happen in a future episode.

Speaking of Bash Steed offspring, the most interesting clue this week may be that the mayor’s assistant is Bash’s niece (or, more likely his great grandniece).  My mayor prediction seems to be looking better every week.  I am pretty sure he wacked Nicky, but I think there could be someone else who did Lester.

But the big money wrench into any theory is why did the billionaires steal the finger?  That was extremely suspicious.  And why would that be a prize?  It has to tie into the casino plans, but what could a rotting finger have to do with that?  But the Celebrity Game bit with all of the Oliver stories helping them win is the highlight of this season so far.

The Lowdown:  Hooking up with the widow.  That is an interesting way to work on the case.  I cannot image it will end very well though.

Survivor:  It is really time to stop it with these three tribes nonsense.  One team always loses most, if not all, of the Immunity Challenges and it is just boring seeing the same team going to Tribal every week.  Then why even do the Immunity Challenge this week?  Now you are going to have unbalanced tribes with the swap next week.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats:  Okay, the Stake a Claim makes more sense seeing it in practice.  But it is weird that the participants did not get to change their clothes into something more athletic.  Almost as weird, everyone else just had to sit there for what had to be over an hour if it took them 35 minutes to make it up the mountain.  I wonder if they will switch it up if anyone else stakes a claim later this season.  It was kind of a boring competition.

Peacemaker:  So, every DC project for the next couple years it just going to have the big bad (and maybe a few good guys) of every movie and show joining Peacemaker in that dimension until their inevitable attempt at Infinity War / Endgame. Oh joy.  That just made an already lackluster finale worse.  And what the fork was up with the random Nelson cameo?

Around the Tubes: October 11, 2025

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on The Mighty Nein, Hazbin Hotel, Great Lake Swimmers and Sofia Camara.

Prime Video released the official trailer for the highly anticipated new series, The Mighty Nein, from Critical Role and Titmouse. The dark and edgy animated series revealed “a homeless wizard”, “an inebriated goblin”, “a shipwrecked sailor”, “a cocky ringmaster”, “a temperamental monk” and “chaos incarnate”. The Mighty Nein follows a group of fugitives and outcasts, bound by secrets and scars. But when a powerful arcane relic known as "The Beacon" falls into dangerous hands, they must learn to work together to save the realm and stop reality itself from unraveling. The series will premiere on November 19 on Prime Video, in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

At the packed Hazbin Hotel New York Comic Con panel, Prime Video unveiled an exclusive new clip from Season Two, as well as a new single and music video for “Gravity,” performed by Jessica Vosk and Alex Brightman. Listen HERE and watch the music video HERE. The exclusive clip features Vox explaining his master plan to The Vees, whether they understand it or not. Also announced, Atlantic Records has released an Amazon exclusive Vox Lenticular vinyl variant, featuring a dynamic lenticular Vox face cover, available HERE for 72 hours only through October 12. The second season of Hazbin Hotel, from creator Vivienne Medrano, A24 and FOX Entertainment Studios’ Emmy award-winning Bento Box Entertainment, premiering October 29, consists of eight episodes, with two episodes rolling out weekly through November 19. The series will be available on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Toronto-based indie folk band Great Lake Swimmers share their much anticipated ninth studio album Caught Light out now. Alongside the full project, the group shares soothing live footage of "For You To Come Around" from Odd Fellows Hall in St. Catharines, Ontario. The band will embark on a lengthy tour beginning October 15 through Canada and the U.S. with support from Elliott BROOD, Rita Visser, Justin Wells and Abe Partridge on select dates with several dates sold out or with few tickets remaining. See all dates below and find tickets and more information via greatlakeswimmers.com/shows.  Frontman and founder Tony Dekker shares, "'For You To Come Around' is about being stuck at the station, in a state between being and becoming. It's about the baggage we carry and the emotional lifting it requires for us to endure, and ultimately, it is about loneliness and longing, and the inability to truly know someone. It might be 'Waiting For Godot,' if that were a 1970s country-folk inspired story song."  Watch: "For You To Come Around" (Live At Odd Fellows Hall)

Rising global pop star Sofia Camara releases her second EP of the year, Hard To Love, via 21 Entertainment Group and Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, with international support from Mercury Records in the US and Polydor Records in the UK.  Hard To Love includes the previously released singles “Girls Like You” and “Parking Lot” – the former of which continues to thrive at Canadian radio, reaching #9 at Hot AC, #15 at Main AC, and #16 on the Top 40. “Girls Like You” also recently became Sofia’s first track to chart on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 at #72 and was praised by BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop as “just the perfect pop song.” Hard To Love additionally includes four new songs, including the focus track “Complicated.”  LISTEN HERE

57 Channel and Only This Is On: October 5, 2025

Task:  Um, what happened to the phone and when did it get swapped?  And who was Grossanova texting with?  I guess it is very obvious that Martha Plimpton is the mole at this point and she did something with the phone.  Now the question is: does she have any help on the inside.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon:  There is no why that did catch up to the carriage.  So, what did that and what happened to him and who he was looking for.

Only Murders in the Building:  Between Loretta’s apartment being burned (the window being broken makes it seem like it was not an accident), Oliver’s backstory, and Mabel reconnecting with Thé, this felt like a very special episode.  But two lines really stood out to me.  The petition guy talking about turning buildings into casinos.  So, are the billionaires paying off the mayor to make this happen?  Is that who Oliver’s buyer is?  Are they trying to turn all of the Arconia into a casino.  But if Oliver is going to sell his apartment, my guess is that he will sell it to Rainey.

The other line that stood out was Sofia mentioning her husband had many businesses at The Arconia.  “Many” seems to imply more than the two we know of.  I wonder what other businesses he had.  But it looks like we will be going back to the billionaires as suspects next week.  Though, with all the businesses that Bash Steed has, I doubt he know everything that is going on with them and someone else exploited the footage and was catfishing Charles.

Chad Powers:  So, did they have to get permission from Tesla to have Chad drive one of their trucks to show just how big of a douche he is? But overall, the first episode was kind of dumb, but I will admit I laughed multiple times.  But it feels like the blind chick from the show where she solves crimes with her dog is doing the same thing, just she can see.  Did no one tell her this is a comedy.

The Lowdown:  Um, so did the Wildlife guy never look for his jacket?  And what did the dudes who kidnapped Lee have to do with that boat?  And is Lee going to get kidnapped every episode.

Survivor:  Oh wow, two of the most annoying players when home the first two weeks.  Though I did not understand the theory of voting out your ally’s number one in hopes they become your number one.  That would just be annoying them and turn on you.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats:  That new stake a claim twist was confusing.  I guess I have to see it in action to fully understand it.  But I felt bad for Tay, how about take her mask off once she ran out of balls. And to add insult to injury, she had to sit there blindfolded having to only hear that the other team won.

Peacemaker:  So white supremacist Auggie actually did not like the Nazis in his world?  Was the guy to a contrarian is every universe.  But just how is Peacemaker going to fit into the finale if he is in prison? Will he get a cell next to Lex?  How will his imprisonment effect a third season?  Will we have to wait another three and a half years for a new season?
