IN THE
SPOTLIGHT

Joanne Froggatt and Tom Hardy in MobLand
Joanne Froggatt and Tom Hardy in MobLand

Before April hits the ground running, March leaves a parting gift in the form of MobLand, a high-stakes crime drama helmed by Guy Ritchie with a powerhouse cast including Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Joanne Froggatt. We sat down with Joanne to talk about her role as Jan Da Souza, wife of the Harrigan family fixer, in the forthcoming series. Take a look.

  • In MobLand, you play Jan Da Souza, the wife of Harry Da Souza, played by Tom Hardy. How ingrained is Jan in the dealings of this sprawling crime empire considering she’s married into this syndicate?

Jan is very much on the periphery of Harry’s work. She is complicit but doesn’t like to know too much about it. However, as the season unfolds and the war between the two crime families unfolds, Jan gets dragged deeper into the chaos.

  • You played Anna Smith, lady’s maid for the aristocratic Crawley family on Downton Abbey. Though the two series have dramatically different tones, was there any knowledge about navigating complex family power dynamics that you applied to this performance?

I can safely say I drew no comparisons between my character in Downton and my character in MobLand. We filmed a lot of dinner scenes in Downton, I filmed one in MobLand and the two were worlds apart. They would have been shocked at Downton Abbey!

  • Was there a unique perspective or experience you can recall that Guy Ritchie brought to the filming process?

I was excited to work with Guy Ritchie and thoroughly enjoyed the process. Guy knows what he wants and knows when he’s got it. I love that decisiveness, as it breeds confidence in everyone on the set.

  • What are you most excited for viewers to see play out in MobLand?

I am really excited to see how viewers respond to the unfolding of the series, and the epic storylines that take so many unexpected twists and turns.

Don’t miss the premiere of MobLand on Paramount+ this Sunday, March 30

57 Channels and Only This Is On: March 23, 2025

The White Lotus:  Well, the Full Moon Party got wild with the two brothers making out, but who could have guessed that two brothers kissing would not be the wildest part of any episode?  Now, I do not think that Boyd Crowder is going to be inspired to find his out lady boy, but I have a sinking suspicion that he is going to ask Chelsea to fork him sometime this season.

Grosse Point Garden Society:  Wait?  Did we just witness a murder?  But my TV brain tells me it is way too early for that to happen.  I think the husband just disappeared after the fight to collect himself, he is not really dead.  Plus, it makes no sense that the ladies, who were not involved, would cover up that murder for him.  It would make more sense that the murder would implicate all of them, not just one of them.

Daredevil: Born Again:  Seeing The Punisher, I was reminded how much I missed those character recaps Marvel used to put on Disney+.  I forgot what happened to him.  I thought he left NYC.  I did watch a lengthy Daredevil recap I found on YouTube but did not think to find one for The Punisher.  I guess I should find one before the next episode.  Now I am wondering if I should look for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones recaps too just in case.  I know I would rather forget Iron Fist (though I vaguely remember thinking the second season was a vast improvement).

The Challenge All Stars: Rivals:  This show really live driving things off cliffs.  But kind of a boring challenge.  Solve a boring puzzle and just drive off a cliff.  Not so coincidentally, all the female-female teams failed.  Challenges are much more entertaining when everyone can participate at once… or trivia.

Survivor:  A wise man once said, “I love it when a plan comes together.”  But for a random swap, there were some conspicuous parings aside from Kamilla and Kyle being with a very strong alliance but multiple advantages.   Sai being stuck with Cedrick who just tried to vote her out.  As well as Star and Eva who have been targeting each other and the lone original Lagi’s on their new Tribe.  It is also pretty convenient that Star is on the same beach where all her clues to her Idol are.  Though this begs the question, will any of her new Tribe members help her solve the puzzle which she still has not gotten.

Harley Quinn:  For a second there, I thought they might actually kill everyone off.  I forgot that Lois sent an SOS to Superman.  Now I worry for the future of the show, which started off on DC Universe and has so far survived the transition from HBO Max to just Max.  Does Max even have originals anymore?  I did see a trailer for a show starring Sawyer from Lost (who I have not seen in a long time) and I think that is the first new show since the Harley Quinn spinoff last summer.  Hopefully the penny pinchers forget the show exists and somehow gets renewed.

Happy Face:  This is a pretty generic serial killer show.  Though, the teenage daughter storyline is starting out a little weird.

Around the Tubes: March 22, 2025

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on The Handmaid’s Tale, Conan Gray, The Knocks, Sofia Camara, TRÍADA, Tic Tac Dough, and Bingo Blitz.

- Hulu has debuted the official trailer and key art for the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”   In the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead. Luke and Moira join the resistance. Serena tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia reckon with what they have wrought, and Nick faces challenging tests of character. This final chapter of June’s journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.  “The Handmaid’s Tale” premieres Tuesday, April 8th with three episodes. New episodes stream Tuesdays and the series finales on May 27th.

Platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and pop king Conan Gray celebrates five years of his debut album, Kid Krow, by unveiling his new Kid Krow, Decomposed (5 Year Anniversary) Digital Release out now via Republic Records. The album anniversary occurs while “The Cut That Always Bleeds” continues its viral success, rising up the Spotify Top 200 Chart five years after release.   Listen Kid Krow, Decomposed (5 Year Anniversary) HERE.  Kid Krow, Decomposed (5 Year Anniversary) notably includes one unreleased track, two new live recordings, and brand-new artwork illustrated by Conan Gray himself.  Among the trio of new songs, Kid Krow, Decomposed includes “The Cut That Always Bleeds [Live], “Heather (Lost Verse Version) [Live],” as well as an unheard studio track entitled “Bed Rest. Watch the lyric video for “Bed Rest” HERE.

- The New York City electronic duo The Knocks and Canadian electro-pop powerhouse artist Dragonette (aka Martina Sorbara) announce their debut collaborative album Revelation to be released on June 6th via Neon Gold Records / Futures / Virgin.  Along with the announcement, they reveal the third installment of their collaborative journey entitled “Foolish Pleasure“, after earlier releasing "Revelation" and “The Hero”. Once again, they deliver a match made in dance-pop heaven. This new era is set in a 1980's corporate liminal space at the fictional company Revelation Technologies, with Aquaria (RuPaul’s Drag Race winner) being the muse. The campaign is a satirical look at the homogenization of marketing and art in the modern landscape, presented through the lens of "executives" selling magic pill products by way of corporate doublespeak and overt sales tactics. This collaboration is a follow-up to The Knocks & Dragonette’s 2019 GRAMMY-nominated single "Slow Song."  Revelation album pre-save

Breakthrough pop artist Sofia Camara releases her first official body of work, launching her debut EP Was I(t) Worth It? via 21 Entertainment and Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, with international support from Mercury Records in the US and Polydor Records in the UK.  A collection of songs that the 22-year-old emerging star has written over the last few years, Was I(t) Worth It? explores themes of heartbreak, toxic relationship cycles, accountability, and perseverance. It features the viral hit single “Who Do I Call Now? (Hellbent),” which has amassed over 44 million global streams since its release last year, the previously released song “Starlight,” and four new tracks, including the latest new single “Here We Go Again.”

The Argentinian band TRÍADA—comprised of Diamela Spina (percussion, vocals), Aylen Reynoso (guitar) and Julia Percowicz (vocals)— share their debut EP De Versiones y Alma, out now on Verve Records / Mercury Records. De Versiones y Alma is a rich, bite-sized EP that offers a proper introduction to TRÍADA and captures their essence via covers of songs transformed with a fresh Argentine flair. Check out the EP here, and a performance video of “Bésame Mucho” also released today, here.  The Buenos Aires-based trio, who started making music together while students in performing arts school, have amassed millions of views and a global audience since they began self-recording music in 2023. As they gained momentum, they decided to call themselves TRÍADA, a reference to the musical language of three notes that make a chord, and the sisterhood of three individuals.

Game Show Network, the leader in game show entertainment across multimedia, premieres two new weeknight shows beginning Monday, April 14. Brooke Burns will host an updated version of the classic TIC TAC DOUGH at 7PM ET, while Valerie Bertinelli hosts an all-new show, BINGO BLITZ, based on the free-to-play app Bingo Blitz, at 7:30PM ET.  TIC TAC DOUGH is an update of NBCUniversal’s classic format originally created by Robert Noah. The show is hosted by the incomparable Brooke Burns (“Master Minds”, “The Chase”), who guides two contestants as they compete to place three of their marks in a row on the giant trivia board. After three rounds, the winning player moves on to face the dragon in the grand prize round, where the dragon moves strategically on the board to block the player’s ability to make three-in-a-row and take home $10,000.  Based on the #1 Free-to-Play App of the same name, in the BINGO BLITZ game show on Game Show Network, two contestants compete in a dynamic blend of trivia and bingo. The ultimate game of knowledge, strategy and luck, contestants answer trivia to earn bingo balls and points. In addition to numbered bingo balls, players also receive gold balls they can strategically place on their cards to increase their chances of making a bingo. Bingos earn the players bonus points, and special ‘power-ups’ on the players’ cards earn them extra points, bingo balls and prizes. After three rounds, the player with the highest score advances to the fast-action Blitz round, where making a bingo in 60 seconds or less awards them $10,000.

57 Channels and Only This Is On: March 16, 2025

The White Lotus:  Well, the boat ride was not the bombshell I thought it was going to be.  Hopefully the Full-Moon Party will bring out the craziness.  And now that Greg and Belinda are cyber stalking each other, that storyline will pick up.

Grosse Point Garden Society:  Well, if the husband is acting guilty of keeping the gate open, I guess we can cross him off the list of potential dog killers.

The Righteous Gemstones:  Interesting way to start a season, without any of the main cast.  So does Bradly Cooper start going by the Gemstone name again while continuing to be a preacher?

The Hunting Party:  They should lean more into how The Pitt “cured” these criminals.  This was probably the best episode as it showed how the fixed that one guy’s issues, but at the same time created new ones.

Daredevil: Born Again: Is Matt good at his job?  Outting his client without his knowledge sounds like grounds of disbarment.  And it ended up getting his client murdered.  Cue the Catholic guilt. But I guess the writers needed a way to get him back in his suit.

The Challenge All Stars: Rivals:  As annoying as it was for Fessy to be cast, especially for an All-Star season, it was satisfying to see him go home fairly early.  Dude went home without even getting a Star.  Though the outcome was spoiled by the This Season On… as we knew there was going to be a Nany-Turbo blow up.  It is really annoying when the promo monkeys do things like this.

Survivor:  I read this week that Probst said they no longer do the school yard pick for tribes because they do not want them to become lopsided.  Yet when production picks tribes, they end up with some extremely lopsided tribes.  This tribe may have gone down as the most pathetic if there was not a swap next week.  There were no physical threats and they do not even seem to be that bright either.  Seriously, you have a guy who just voted for the same person twice and switched his voted on the promise she would place nice with the third person in the Tribe.  Um, if they mend things up, does he not realize that if they start getting along, they would possibly vote him out?  Of course that is moot because of the swap, but now his two former tribemates left in the game have absolutely no reason to be loyal to him if they end up on the same tribe or make the merge.  This may have been a top five dumbest move in Survivor history.  But we got a historic tribal, yet I was a little disappointed because we were teased a 1-1-1 vote, which would have ended up someone being a wilder way for the Tribal to go.

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on Tom Petty, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Bob Marley, Ariana Grande, Got To Get OutOverboard for LoveOh My God…Yes! A Series of Relatable Circumstances.

Over the last year the Tom Petty Estate has been opening their vault and sharing previously unreleased music and never-before-seen, newly remastered film from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ prolific 1982 to ’83 era. Directed by Justin Kreutzmann, the video, which boasts newly remastered audio, features footage of the band’s performance at The Record Plant, filmed for the French TV program, “Houba Houba,” alongside never-before-seen bonus footage originally captured by Cameron Crowe for his 1983 film, Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party. The film has been restored and released for the first time in more than 40 years and is now streaming on Paramount+. The new clip follows The Record Plant videos of “Keeping Me Alive,” “Finding Out” and “Stories We Could Tell.”  Watch “Wild Thing” (French TV) here: tompetty.lnk.to/wildthingmvPR

The record has been remastered from the original production master at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios and will be available on CD, vinyl and digitally for streaming and download May 2 via Cat-O-Log Records/UMe.  The CD will be packaged in a digisleeve with a 16-page booklet featuring lyrics and new retrospective recollections from those who were there, including bassist Bruce Lynch and the band’s 1974 tour manager Carl Miller, and additional notes. The vinyl will be available on 140-gram black vinyl or as a limited edition pressing available only via CatStevens.com, uDiscover Music and Sound of Vinyl on 140-gram lava splatter vinyl, both packaged for the first time in a gatefold sleeve with the aforementioned liner notes. Saturnight was released in a super limited edition as an “RSD First” for last year’s Record Store Day Black Friday event exclusively on 180-gram orange splatter color vinyl.  Pre-order Saturnight: Live From Tokyo: https://ycs.lnk.to/saturnightPR

57 Channels and Only This Is On: March 9, 2025

The White Lotus:  Oh no did Boyd Crowder not remember wait happened to the snake preacher on Justified?  I guess that was some very strong weed.  But otherwise this was a fairly slow episode.  Hopefully things start to pick up on the yacht.  Unfortunately the blonde blog does not seem to be on it but still plenty of mischief for the douchebag to get in to.

Mayfair Witches:  I scoffed at the trigger warning about violence, but I guess I kind of needed one for children drinking demon blood.  But is Lasher dead-dead, or can Rowen give birth to him again?

Grosse Point Garden Society:  So Birdie is so in deep with the cop he is willing to cover up a body?  Well, that relationship escalates quickly.  But my new suspect as to who killed the dog is Alice’s husband.

Paradise:  So last week, no moody cover of a cheesy 80's song to close out the episode and this week, they just recycled Another Day in Paradise. Meh. Let's be honest, the moody covers of cheesy 80's songs and the assassin who is weirdly obsessed with the Wii are the best (only good?) parts of the show.

Then nothing spoils a mystery quite like starting an episode with a bunch people we have never met (or at least thought we never met). Of course one of them turned out to be the killer.

Daredevil: Born Again: The really felt like an uncanny valley version of the Netflix show.  Sure, it kind of looks and feels like the old show, but something felt a little off.  And it may get worse with Foggy dead (though it seem like a lot of people think that is a misdirect; I guess he would not be the first comic book character to be resurrected) and Karen in San Francisco.  And I had to ask myself while watching these episode, just how old does Vincent D’Onofrio have to get before he is no longer physically imposing in the way Kingpin is supposed to be.  I feel like we are getting really close.

The Challenge All Stars: Rivals:  Finally, Steve and Adam win; time to shake things up.  Sigh, but unfortunately they did not make any big moves and just threw in one of the weaker teams.   Though the switching up how vacant stars were interesting.  But I guess if they cannot be gifted a star, there is almost no chance Katie and Veronica are going to TJ’s final.

Survivor:  Sigh, we almost had two of the most annoying people go home the first two weeks.  We almost had one of the funnier moments in Survivor history.  If only that one guy had destroyed the Beware Advantage the other one suggested, that would have been great.  I really hope she does not end up getting it and then getting her wish of getting rid of the autistic hockey player.  She is one of the few interesting players this season.

School Spirits:  Um… so is Simon dead?  Is someone else in his body?  It would be funny if football player stole it so he could be with Maddie.  But it was completely absurd that Maddie risked her body to help a bunch of people who were already dead.

Ghosts:  Two new dead bodies in two years, at what point does that hurt Jay’s business.  But of all the people who could have died, the Australian stripper is kind of annoying.  Hopefully he gets sucked off soon… or just disappears and is forgotten like Pete’s wife usually is.  Though I have to admit, a It’s Raining Men stunt going horribly wrong is pretty funny.

Around the Tubes: March 8, 2025

I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on Am I Being Unreasonable?, Kelsea Ballerini, Rick and Morty, Lyn Lapid, Erin Gibney, and Stefanie Michaela.

- Created by and starring Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli, the complete second season of Hulu Original series “Am I Being Unreasonable?” will premiere on March 12, 2025.   Season 2 will begin where season 1 left off, mid panic attack. Has Nic got away with murder? Quite possibly. Has she raised her son Ollie to follow in her murky footsteps? Kicked out of the family home for brotherly love – loving the wrong brother – Nic is reduced to sharing a caravan with not so trustworthy best friend Jen. Husband Dan has taken up roller-blading to channel his mid-life crisis. Shunned at the school gates and cast as the witch at the school re-enactment Nic is experiencing hallucinations. Or is the someone playing tricks on her?

- Five-time GRAMMY® Award nominated and multiple ACM and CMA Award winning multiplatinum songwriter, producer and author Kelsea Ballerini releases the highly anticipated deluxe edition of her 2024 album, PATTERNS. PATTERNS (DELUXE), available now via Black River, features five new songs—including the hooky and sleek “Future Tripping,” which she debuted live on Feb. 26 during a show in Fort Worth, Texas.  The wistful “Future Tripping” explores the anxiety and uncertainty that accompanies the passage of time: “I don’t want to impose / Some things we’re not supposed to know yet / But my head won’t stop,” Ballerini sings over snappy guitar licks and bright programmed drums. The 20-track edition also includes the fingerpicked ballad (and previously issued digital bonus track) “To The Men That Love Women After Heartbreak,” the punchy and atmospheric “Put It To Bed,” the soulful and sonically shifting “Cut Me Up,” and the earnestly strummed “Hindsight Is Happiness.”

Following the announcement of her highly anticipated debut album BUZZKILL coming out on April 25th, rising singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lyn Lapid reveals she will embark on the “BUZZKILL World Tour” this summer following the album’s release. Kicking off May 6th in Berlin, the tour will first see Lyn headline shows across Europe and the UK before heading back to North America, where she’ll perform in major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Vancouver, and more through the end of June. See the full list of tour dates below and at www.lynlapidtour.com.

Country-pop singer-songwriter Erin Gibney just released her new single, "Leave the Pieces," this week via Rock Ridge Music. It is a cover of a song by The Wreckers.  Says Gibney about the song: "'Leave the Pieces' is an incredibly nostalgic song for me. I remember singing this in my room as a little kid and fantasizing about being a country singer one day. I included this song in my set on my very first tour opening for Sister Hazel and took it with me on my first headlining tour this summer. I have always wanted to cover this song because it is an ode to my past and is a reminder of how far I have come since singing it as an 11-year-old girl. I wanted to honor this song and The Wreckers by keeping some elements, like the guitar, similar in the track. I am so excited to finally have my own version of 'Leave the Pieces' in my catalog!"

Soulful Pop R&B artist Stefanie Michaela unveils the highly anticipated music video for her emotional single, “Found in You.” Filmed at the iconic Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee, the video captures the raw beauty and vulnerability behind the song’s heartfelt message of love and resilience. The video was expertly directed and filmed by the talented Melissa Core and Rick Caballo. WATCH HERE  In the music video, Stefanie shines in a stunning long blue dress, a visual representation of the song’s elegance and emotional depth. The striking imagery, paired with the breathtaking location, highlights the song's theme of love found in the strength and unwavering connection between two people.

57 Channels and Only This Is On: March 2, 2025

The White Lotus:  So are we just going to have a new pairing of the blonde blog every week trashing the missing one?  Granted there is only one pairing left.  I guess after that, somebody is going to have to fork someone outside the trio… unless they will start hooking up with each other.  At what point in the series are we going to learn that happened in college?  Is Leslie Bibb going to hook up with one of Parker Posey’s kids out of spite?  This does feel like a hornier season, so it seems like any iteration of these people could hook up at any point, even two of Posey’s kids.

Mayfair Witches:  Well, that was an… um, interesting wedding ritual.  But are they actually suggesting Lasher is a good demon?  Dude has literally killed multiple people.

Grosse Point Garden Society:  That was fun in a shameless rip-off of Desperate Housewives kind of way.  It is weird how trashy, nighttime soaps have almost gone away since that show went off the air.  I guess trashy TV has morphed into reality shows.  But the dead body better be the dog killer, who I am not convinced is the student who the show is wanting us to believe did it.

The Hunting Party:  Oh wow, they killed the lady agent.  Kind of bold for episode four even if she was revived.  I am surprised none of the escapes have tied to kidnap her daughter yet.  Maybe they are saving that for the finale.

Paradise:  So Xavier has been holding a grudge with the president this whole time, but he just looks petty now.  The president literally told him to stop letting his wife go to Atlanta.  If you know something bad is coming, and the guy who knows more about it than anyone on the planet tells you to put your foot down with your wife, it is on you to make sure she stays close.

But I am confused with the nuclear football with the EMP code.  Umm, were they not on the plane when the president put in that code?  And how does the EMP not affect all the electronics in the bunker?  Those seem like massive plot holes.

The Challenge All Stars: Rivals:  Oh joy, another week and another week where Adam and Steve are the house vote, and another week they send someone home.  Does no one want a star>  I get not going in early, but it is time for non-star holders to think about ways to get one.

Survivor:  You know, maybe it is not the best idea to take a bunch of people we do not know and instantly covering them in mud, making it even harder to figure out who these people are.  But at least this is one of the rare season where one of the most annoying people went home first.
