57 Channels and Only This Is On: August 17, 2025

Alien: Earth:  I am confused, how is a runaway space ship just allowed to crash into Earth?  Are there not early detection systems?  Why not destroy it before it enters the atmosphere?  And why exactly are they letting a bunch of ten-year-olds go to the crash site?  Sure, they are super-human, but they still have the brains of children and children are forking stupid.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats:  I missed talking about the first couple weeks because there was not anything else on so I signed up for a month of Netflix (Happy Gilmore 2 was great even though the antagonist was bad (why not just have Happy vs. Shooter on the Senior Tour?); Sirens was great, The Hunting Wives was stupid in a highly entertaining way, everything else was… well, there is a reason why I only sign up for Netflix for one month every other year. See you again for the 2027 World Cup Netflix).

I do like the swapping of partners as it will shake up voting, though I am slightly disappointed we did not get a full season of Turbo and America as partners.  That would have been very entertaining.  But this episode was a bit boring.  It became quite obvious that Nia would not be cleared, especially when they went to commercial with not enough time to come back and do a full elimination.  Now I wonder what they were going to do with all those logs.

Today, indie duo Haerts release “The Lie,” the second single from their upcoming album Laguna Road, alongside an evocative new video directed by longtime collaborator Julian Klincewicz (Beyoncé, Virgil Abloh, Tame Impala, etc.). Watch here.  “The Lie” is an ode to bandmates and life partners Nini Fabi and Benny Gebert’s youth — a memory of young love — its freedom, its weight, and its strange wisdom. “It’s about the dreams and the pain that brought us together,” says Fabi, “the same forces that at times tore us apart.” Klincewicz’s video strips the visual down to raw emotion.

Glass Animals unveil their latest track “Vampire Bat”, the fifth instalment in their Fresh Fruit Series—listen HERE. Fresh Fruit is a space for Dave Bayley and the band to experiment, bringing in guests and collaborators and allowing Dave (who produces all of the Glass Animals’ records) to play with new sounds. Previous Fresh Fruit releases includ “Lose Control” with Joey Bada$$, the much-missed “Gold Lime”“Tokyo Drifting” with Denzel Curry, and “I Don’t Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)” with Albert Hammond Jr.. “Vampire Bat” is a collaboration between Dave and producer Rob Bisel [SZA].

- LA via South Florida myah isn’t just another indie musician — she’s the producing force behind music videos for major artists, like The Marias -- “Un Millon”, “All I Really Want Is You”, song of the summer “Mood” by 24k Goldn, Kehlani’s “Little Story”,  Steve Aoki’s Ultimate & “Invitame a Un Cafe”, Tinashe’s “X”, Oliver Tree’s break-up anthem “Cowboys Don’t Cry”, and more. Now, she’s stepping in front of the camera with a voice that’s just as big as the visuals she’s produced, winning a Telly Award in 2025 for her music video, “the lobby”.  Originally from South Florida, myah’s sound is a blend of alternative rock, pop, and pop-punk melodies with midwest emo inspired guitar riffs. Influenced by bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Foxing, and  Modest Mouse, her love for alternative music solidified her decision to make music of a similar caliber, while still incorporating those familiar pop beats. Storytelling is a huge part of her music identity, writing lyrics that tap into her own life experiences with hints of nostalgia. Myah’s songwriting meshes soft pop female familiarity with emo angst and vulnerability.  STREAM/WATCH"glitter," WATCH "dodging bullets," WATCH "hurricane," WATCH "now or never," WATCH "notice you".

This video is a return to collaboration with the incomparable Andreas Nilsson who made videos on the first album campaign - for ‘Death’, ‘Farewell To The Fairground’ and ‘To Lose My Life’. Andreas has gone on to become one of the world’s most creative and in demand directors so it’s a real pleasure for us that he’s made this happen. Shot in Bangkok in 24hrs only a few weeks ago, it’s as stylish and as unsettling a music video as you are likely to see. It’s pure cinema, we love it." The track follows previous single, "Nothing On Me" and is taken from their recently announced seventh album, Night Light, which is released via Play It Again Sam on November 7.

A bittersweet breakup ballad reflects resignation and emotional distance at the end of a relationship wrapped in lyrics that still resonate with raw hurt and disappointment. A personal library of previously unheard music, the upcoming record is a stripped back look into Lou’s exploration both globally and internally, her first album since 2023’s Shelter — Pre-save.   She shares, “After five band records, I’ve opened my treasure chest of personal storytelling songs that I’ve built up over a decade. Songs that didn’t make it into other albums, some songs I never thought would see the light of day. I embarked on the brave and thrilling journey of recording these songs as they are, with love and playfulness, simple and all my own. Leaning into imperfection and taking inspiration from some of my biggest influences who have made timeless folk acoustic albums.”  Along with the news of the upcoming album, today also sees the release of the new, self-confident single “Pretender.” Commending herself for finding strength in her softness and never compromising on who she is, even when it would be easier to be someone else, Lou is seeing her authenticity pay off. Even if that’s something that her fans have championed in her writing all along, this is the moment where she can feel it in her own heart.
