I have gotten a plethora of cool press releases have been flooding my inbox recently that you may find interesting. This post includes blurbs on History of the World, Part II, Wreck, Lavell Crawford, Mckenna Grace, Lauren Spencer Smith, Benee, Showtime, To The Rescue, and Sublime.

- We are excited to share the official trailer for Hulu's upcoming sketch comedy variety series "History of the World, Part II," which premieres Monday, March 6 with two episodes. Two new episodes will drop daily, with our finale on Thursday, March 9.

- Fremantle's UK series “Wreck” is a tense thriller, mixing comedy with a slice of slasher, set aboard The MS Sacramentum cruise ship. The series follows 19-year-old new recruit, Jamie, as he infiltrates the 1000-strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister. She was working aboard the same vessel on a previous tour and vanished mid-charter. Jamie is initiated into cruise life and gets a crash course on the tribes within the staff: the theatre kids, the mafias and the low-paid workers. For this overworked and underpaid crew, life below deck can be an odyssey of partying and excess… and they remain oblivious to the bloodthirsty murders taking place on board. Jamie is forced to turn detective and uncover the sinister truth.  Premieres exclusively on Hulu Wednesday, March 1st.

- Lavell Crawford returns for his fourth SHOWTIME comedy special LAVELL CRAWFORD: THEE LAVELL CRAWFORD, starting Friday, February 24 on streaming and on demand for SHOWTIME subscribers, before making its on-air debut on Sunday, February 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. In the stand-up special filmed at the Joy Theater in New Orleans, Crawford delves into the issues of getting older without the shame and with all the sarcasm. - “RapCaviar Presents” is a compelling new documentary series that tackles some of today’s most provocative issues through the stories of hip-hop visionaries and emerging stars currently ruling the charts and influencing our culture, from City Girls to Tyler, The Creator, Jack Harlow, Polo G, Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray and more. - Emmy nominated singer, songwriter and actress Mckenna Grace releases her new track and visualizer for “Checkered Vans” today via Photo Finish Records. The song was co-written by Grace, Bulow and Elizabeth Lowell Bowland (Madison Beer, Tate McRae) and produced by Lowell and Herag (Hailee Steinfeld, Alessia Cara). Grace is also set to perform on February 21, at LA’s Moroccan Lounge. Click HERE for Tickets Available at Ticketmaster.  “Checkered Vans” is the second song being released from Bittersweet 16. “I wrote this song as a fun punky skater breakup song:) I’m a big roller skater and a vans fan (especially checkered ones) so I thought it’d be interesting to write a song using really specific items and imagery.” says Grace. “I took a lot of inspo from Le Tigre for this song, I wanted it to feel super 90s punk girl.”

- Lauren Spencer Smith, the generational talent and breakthrough act of 2022, is set to have a landmark 2023. The 19-year-old singer songwriter from Vancouver Island, Canada, shares her latest single “Best Friend Breakup” from her forthcoming debut album. The newest anthem is for a certain type of heartbreak — one that comes from the falling out of two best friends. Lauren’s booming, impressive vocals are on full display while she sings about both a deeply personal and universally relatable experience. With “Best Friend Breakup,” she continues her streak of sharing songs that make her fans feel understood; Lauren’s brand of music is like a hug from a friend at the time it’s needed most.

- New Zealand alternative pop star BENEE returns with a brand new single and music video entitled “Green Honda” via Republic Records.  Listen to “Green Honda” HERE & watch the music video HERE  “Green Honda,” which was featured on New Music Daily on Apple Music, is the first new song from BENEE leading up to a larger body of work due out later this year.

 - SHOWTIME has placed a straight-to-series order for THE DEPARTMENT (w/t) to be directed by George Clooney. Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through their Smokehouse Pictures with MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios set to produce.  "THE DEPARTMENT, based on the riveting and brilliant series The Bureau, will follow in the great tradition of HOMELAND, one of the most successful and brand-defining shows at SHOWTIME,” said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime and Paramount Media. “Just as HOMELAND elevated global espionage to new heights, THE DEPARTMENT will take viewers even deeper into a world of intrigue and subterfuge with complicated characters who struggle with their own demons as they fight existential threats to the nation and the world.”

• BILLIONS: MIAMI (w/t), a new installment set in the world of private aviation, where the clientele believe the rules of society, government and gravity don’t apply to them, amidst the wealth, nightlife, contraband and the cryptocurrency that pulses through that city. Koppelman and Levien are already in the writing process on this project.

• BILLIONS: LONDON (w/t), another iteration set across the pond and operating in the world of UK finance.

• MILLIONS (w/t), a series featuring diverse, thirtysomething, financial mogul wannabes doing whatever it takes to make it in Manhattan.

• TRILLIONS (w/t), a drama based on fictional stories of the richest people in the world - titans of industry living all over the country but coming into contact and conflict with one another.

- SHOWTIME announced today it has placed a straight-to-series order for the new drama DEXTER: ORIGINS (w/t), to be executive produced by Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips, based upon the Emmy-nominated hit series DEXTER that starred Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall.  The network is also developing a new version of DEXTER: NEW BLOOD, which depicts the ongoing emergence of Dexter’s son Harrison. In addition, SHOWTIME is exploring projects based on other characters from the DEXTER universe, such as the makings of the notorious Trinity Killer originally played by Emmy winner John Lithgow.

- SHOWTIME has announced its development plans for series based upon the hit drama BILLIONS, starring Oscar^® nominee and Emmy^® winner Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff. All of the projects are executive produced by BILLIONS showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who have established their own acclaimed brand of propulsive storytelling and articulately incorrigible characters. Season seven of BILLIONS is currently in production in New York City and will return to SHOWTIME later this year. Currently in the process of development at SHOWTIME are projects that would expand the BILLIONS universe.

 

- Great American Family and the producers of the hit animal TV series, “To The Rescue,” are teaming up to raise money for animal rescue organizations via Forever Family Rescue Foundation a 501c3, with its first annual "To The Rescue Pup-A-Thon 2023.” Featuring dogs that are available for adoption around the country that have been waiting for a forever home, the event will be broadcast live nationally from Los Angeles on Great American Family from 12 PM-4 PM ET / 9 AM-1 PM PT this Sunday, February 12. In support of the upcoming event, the donation window is now live and people can pledge their support by texting LIVE to 801801.  The Pup-A-Thon will be hosted by Tommy Habeeb (host of “To The Rescue”), Mariel Hemingway and Scott Baio. The Last of Us:  Oh joy, another “very special episode” of a prestige TV show.  But when every prestige TV show has a “very special episode” they just become less special.  And why would I spend almost an entire episode with two people we have never met and will be dead by the end of the episode when we barely know the two leads?  This just killed any momentum before they could even start any momentum.

 

Your Honor:   So the gangster is just now wondering how the judge got out of prison?  But I guess it was best to have the conversion in a public space because who know what would have been said or done had no one else been around.

 

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches:  Who dreams of having sex fully clothed?  I know this is basic cable, but c’mon.  And I still have no clue who the lurker dude is and why he keeps tying himself to whoever wears that key.  They need to explain him soon.

 

Quantum Leap:  Way to just ruin the set rule that if a leaper dies during a leap, they die in real life.

 

La Brea:  I have no idea who that dud who died was.  They turned him over and I was like… okay.  But really, I do not really remember anyone not in the main cast except the dude with the wild hair.  I guess I vaguely remember the guy with the knife.

 

The Challenge: Ride or Dies:  Is Olivia unlucky or does this show need better safety requirements?  She pulled apart her finger why tossing something and then almost put her eye out during the slingshot.  Then the inconstant rules on this show just continue.  Devon can drink all the sabotage fish drinks, but Horatio could not do all the sling shots.  Maybe if they would stop making things up on the fly, people will not constantly get seriously injured.

The Last of Us:  It was obvious that lady was not going to last long, but man, that maybe the creepiest television death of all time with the infected kiss. 

 

Your Honor:   I was wondering after the first episode just who knew about that baby.  Clearly the judge did not.  But what exactly did they talk about in prison if not that?  It is not like they were together very long.  I did not even realize they got so close that they were having sex.  Now the question is do her parents now?  They have yet to mention their grandkid.  But how awkward that the kid has the first named of a person killed by the person who provided the last name?  Though I forget if she knew about that whole thing.  If not, does the judge tell her?

 

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches:  It is hilarious that even though they are speaking English, they put on subtitles for the Irish ladies.

 

The Challenge: Ride or Dies:  Good riddance Fessy, please never come back.  And take all those Big Brothers with you.  But with the 100 hour finale, hopefully that not mean they do not stretch out the two episode finale is already too much.

- SHOWTIME Documentary Films announced THE 12^TH VICTIM, a four-part docuseries that sheds new light on the infamous 1958 Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate murder case, in which the teenage couple was charged and convicted of brutally killing 11 victims at random. Told through a stylistic blend of archival and recreated footage and countless film and television series inspired by the killings, THE 12^TH VICTIM reexamines Fugate’s guilty verdict, who was 14 years old at the time of the killings, through a modern lens, questioning the media and judicial system’s treatment of her despite her self-proclaimed innocence. Executive produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, the series will premiere on Friday, February 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. The Last of Us:  Did this really need to be 80 minutes?  The season is 9 episodes, why not do ten episodes with shorter run times?  This episode could have ended with Joel disposing of the body in Boston and that would have been an interesting end to the episode and leaving you wanting more.  Are these long episode just done to screw people who are paid by the episode? 

 

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches:  Um, why was the hot brain surgeon having an orgasm at the same time her mother was having sex?

 

Leverage: Redemption:  Ooo, the Leverage team got got.  Except I only vaguely remember the guy who entrapped them.

 

The Challenge: Ride or Dies:  Well, at least two of the three most annoying people went home this week.  Now if on Fessy follows his Big Brother brethren out the door next week.

 

Big Sky:  I actually did not even realize this was the finale until it was over.  Here is hoping ABC puts everyone out of their misery and finally cancels the show.

- That awkward moment when everyone has a superpower except you.  Hulu has released an official first look clip of new comedy series "Extraordinary, a hilarious new spin on superpowers from debut writer Emma Moran and the producers of "Killing Eve."  In the first look clip – the opening of episode two “Magic Bullets” – Carrie (Sofia Oxenham) and Kash (Bilal Hasna) believe that putting Jen (Máiréad Tyers) in a stressful situation will bring about her power. When an extra spicy meal fails to provide results, Jen runs into her regular, non-committal hook up, Luke (Ned Porteous) as she tries to remain cool…  All eight episodes will launch on Wednesday, January 25th. 

- Check out the official trailer for the final season of Hulu Original animated series "Animaniacs"!   Season three premieres with all 10 episodes on February 17 on Hulu.    Trailer Available: HERE  Yakko, Wakko, and Dot return with an all-new season of laughs, songs, pop culture parodies, and enough zany antics to fill a water tower (or at least 10 episodes!). Pinky and Brain's never ending plans to take over the world journey them to the ends of new lands, deserts, and even the space time continuum. And while new friends, Starbox and Cindy continue their play date, the Warner siblings must battle their way out of a video game, learn the secrets of being a teen influencer, and escape a mad scientist's island all while finding time to teach us about the threat of global warming!

- “Letterkenny” spin-off “Shoresy” will return exclusively to Hulu, in the U.S. for a 6-episode, second season. The critically acclaimed first season debuted on Hulu on Friday, May 27, 2022.  View Clip Announcement Here.  The series follows the foul-mouthed, chirp-serving, mother-loving, fan favorite character, Shoresy (Keeso), and the embattled Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs as they continue their quest to never lose again. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches:  Nothing will ever top Denise Richards: nuclear physicist, but Alexandra Daddario: brain surgeon comes really close as most unbelievable occupation for an actor.  But at least that James Bond movie was campy, it seems like we are supposed to take this show seriously.

 

Leverage: Redemption:  That was a fun detour where the team gets scooped on a target.  I wonder if we will see that lady again.  It would be fun to see other Leverage teams.

 

The Challenge: Ride or Dies:  So in the past five weeks, one whole team has gone home?  What a stupid forking twist this has been.  Unfortunately Fessy won the elimination to stay in the game, yet for some reason the other two teams have not been completely eliminated yet.  Ugg.

 

Big Sky:  I guess I cannot say this show has gone off the rails because that would imply it was on the rails at any point, but this whole Buck being the big bad has just gotten absurd.  This is definitely not a story worthy of a full season.

 

Ghosts:  After his introduction last week, I was not expecting the new guy to be around very long.   In two episodes he has been fired and quit.  Now I wonder if he will flee after learning about the ghosts.  He has already seen a keyboard type by itself, what else will he see?

- SHOWTIME has released the first official teaser for the highly anticipated second season of the Emmy-nominated drama YELLOWJACKETS. As the sun rose this Friday the 13th, the official YELLOWJACKETS social channels went live with a flickering candle and as fans engaged, the candle melted in real time for an hour until dawn broke and finally revealed the first official teaser for season two. Season two will return starting Friday, March 24 on streaming and on demand for all SHOWTIME subscribers, before making its on-air debut on Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Season one, which has a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and received seven Emmy nominations, averaged over 5 million weekly viewers across platforms and was the second-most streamed series in SHOWTIME history. Produced for SHOWTIME by studio Entertainment One (eOne), the series is currently in production in Vancouver.

- Hulu has released the official trailer and key art for "Wu-Tang: An American Saga" season three. The final season launches with three episodes on Wednesday, February 15. New episodes will follow every Wu-Wednesday, with the finale dropping on April 5.  Off the release of their debut album and their continued rise to fame, we follow the Wu-Tang Clan over the course of their five-year plan as they face and overcome different challenges. While each of the members go on separate journeys to figure out where they fit in the music world, RZA struggles to stay on top of things in order to fulfill the promise he made to his Wu brothers. As money, fame, ego, and business threaten to tear the group apart, they must find a way to come together and cement their legacy.

- Check out the trailer for season two of Hulu Original series, "How I Met Your Father." The comedy series returns for its second season with one episode on Tuesday, January 24. New episodes will follow weekly, only on Hulu. In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the present where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

 - Mae Whitman revealed the premiere date and a first look at her upcoming Hulu Original musical romantic comedy series “Up Here.” The series premieres all episodes March 24 on Hulu.  A musical romantic comedy set in New York City in the waning days of 1999, following the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, Lindsay and Miguel, as they fall in love and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears and fantasies that lives inside their heads.

- The Songs of Bacharach & Costello, personally compiled by Elvis Costello, brings together all of the published songs that Costello has written with the legendary Burt Bacharach, one of the great composers of popular music in the 20^th and now 21st Century.  Releasing March 3 via UMe, The Songs of Bacharach & Costello, celebrates a collaboration which began in 1995 and which continues to this day.  Those who were surprised by the writers of “I’m Not Angry” and “What’s New Pussycat?” working together perhaps overlooked that Bacharach was engaging in musical collaboration for only the second time in his storied career - the first resulting in just a handful of songs musically written with Neil Diamond.  It was Costello who wrote the first musical draft of “God Give Me Strength,” communicating from Dublin to Los Angeles by fax - back in the 20th Century - and far from being offended by this presumption, Bacharach sent back an amended copy, laying out the signature intro motif for flugelhorn, adding the expansive bridge section and making all sorts of subtle but crucial amendments to the melodic and rhythmic phrasing of Costello’s first draft.  Listen to the live tracks here: https://elviscostello.lnk.to/TSOBACPR

- With their self-titled debut album due out January 27 via Bella Union, and having previously shared a video for lead track “May”, Complete Mountain Almanac share a second single, “February”, from this much-anticipated release. Commenting on the track lyricist Jessica Dessner says: “February is a song that began as a reckoning with the profound physical changes wrought by breast cancer and how they threaten to dismantle every aspect of life, and yet, somehow the spirit rises, remains constant, immutable, a force, like nature.” Vocalist Rebekka Karijord adds: “To me, February is like an ancient myth. A road trip dance, moving between vulnerability and resilience. It journeys through layers of odd meters, restlessness and mystery, and then lands in a musical landscape of acceptance and clarity.  Complete Mountain Almanac is the musical collaboration of Norwegian-born, Sweden-based singer and composer Rebekka Karijord and American-born, Italy-based poet, dancer and multimedia artist Jessica Dessner, joined by her brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National.  Listen to "February" HERE
