Fall 2016 Music Preview

This is usually the time when I bemoan the lack of marquee releases being released over the next couple month, even in the fourth quarter when tent-poles were usually released. Except there are a couple of albums coming out soon. Metallica released a first single that was straight fire. The new Green Day song is better than anything off their last trio of albums. The mellower side of me is also excited for new Norah Jones and Regina Spektor whose last albums were really good. Okay, that is about it, of those with solid release dates so far, Sting may come in at number five most interesting album coming out before Christmas. But here are a couple more albums that will at least b worth a spin on Spotify when they are released. Click on the album title to pre-order on Amazon. 2016 Summer Music Preview

As it seems like every time I do a quarterly round up of albums coming soon, things just seem to be getting more and more dire. These are supposed to be the albums that will be the soundtrack to out collective summer, but most everything is a resounding meh to me. The only album I can even get a little excited for is the new Avett Brothers album. Everything else I will at least give a spin on Spotify hopping for a gem. In the past, at the "TBD" section was where a bulk of the anticipated albums landed before airdropping with little to no notice, but even that is getting thin. If you want to pre-order the album on Amazon, click on the album title, click the artist's name to be taken to their iTunes page.

Spring 2016 Music Preview

Before I get into the upcoming releases, let m first acknowledge the passing of Phife Dawg. A Tribe Called quest have always been my favorite rap group and of course Phife was a large part of that. Back in the early days of the 9th Green, when I still made mixtapes, I released a Best of A Tribe Called Quest list which you can check out by following the link. But really, if you have not done so already, definitely head over to Spotify or your favorite streaming site to listen to their whole catalouge, especially their first three album which were all five mic albums.

Since my last music preview, two high profile albums finally dropped, both kind of disastrously. Rihanna's ANTI was released prematurely on Tidal before it was rushed released. Kanye West's The Life of Pablo also had some glitches with the streaming site and then Kanye bizarrely decided to not make it available anywhere else and declared physical releases dead. But hey, supossedly there is another Knye album or two coming this year, no word if those will be Tidal exclusives too. Here are the other albums you can get this spring on more than jussts Tidal. Winter 2016 Music Preview

2013 was dubbed the year of the comeback with Daft Punk, Nickel Creek, and Black Sabbath all releasing new albums after a lengthy hiatus, and in the latter case, an album with Ozzie Osbourne that no one thought would ever happen after almost four decades at odds. But reunion albums are now the norm with last year seeing decade long hatchets buried by Jodeci, Veruca Salt, and New Order except non of those really caught fire. Many suggest the uptick in reunions is the proliferation in festivals Stateside that are looking for big names to set themselves apart. Cochella just announced the reunion of the original Guns N' Roses after two decades of vitriol and LCD Soundsystem (which is not much of a reunion because it is just one dude who decided to "disband" just five years ago). Then usually an album comes so they have something to promote than just their catalog. So already this year we are getting comeback albums from Violent Femmes (15 years) and The English Beat (33 years). I have a feeling those will be more like last year's comeback albums and less Get Lucky. But those are really the only albums worth talking about that are coming out in the first quarter as all the big names are in the TBA section. But here are the few new albums to look out for over the next couple months (and though you may not have heard from Primal Scream since the nineties, I did not bring them up in the comeback album talk because they have both been constantly putting out albums this century).
